My little brother bought a 88 Gt footbrake car. Its had all the basic interior gutting. He bought a flat top .060 over 302 for a bottom end..His/my plans are to order a set of trick flow aluminum heads with crane 1.60 roller rockers. A .523-.521 comp cam (hydralic), a victor jr intake. With a 750 double pumper carburator. This is his first "race" car so I think he wants to run around 7.50's or so.. he is gonna use a C4 transmission and any suggestions on a convertor are appreciated. We put a 4.56 gear in it also.. I think his et goal is realistic. I am just not a ford guy so I dont know what works as far as combo's go. He wants to spend around $1100 on a set of heads and the trick flows seem to fit the bill.. thanks

Congrats to you and your brother and his purchase, I'm sure one of the motor gods around can school you... welcome

I suck so bad at this, what does 7.50 ets in the 1/8 equate to in 1/4 mile?????? You may be surprised how fast that lil old small block ford can go as is, see what it does with the iron heads, then go from there.

7.50 1/8 mile ET's equate to low 12 quarter mile times in a decent car.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! So he's looking for a Comp 280S cam and Edel RPM intake, Edel RPM heads with the little valves and a Manual shift C-4 with a 4,00 stall convertor (probably a 9"). ?SteveW

I dont think he'll have much of a problem get'n to 7.50'a.. My nova weighs 3600lbs and runs 7.30's with a 355 with dart iorn eagle heads and a .550 crane cam, victor jr intake, 4.10 gears and a glide. The reason the nova is so heavy is I am still try'n to take weight out of it and keep it legal so in a few years when gas comes down and contingancy goes up I will race stock again.. thanks

If you're running the twisted wedge heads you might have to "eyebrow" the piston tops for valve clearance since one of the valves (intake, I think) are in a different location than normal------------------ '68 mustang 351 clevor- 10.92@124 '67 Stang, 351W -11.18@118 '69 351C Torino-14.90@100 '78 Pickup 351W-15.56@88 '79 Pickup 460 ET=??

From what research I have done it says that the twisted wedge heads are designed for flat top pistons so thats what we ordered in his short block. I will ask the tech guy when we order them and also about pushrod length.. I will test piston to valve clearance good too..the following is from the trick flow site.. NOTE: ? Maximum cam specifications with factory flat top pistons: 224? duration at .050" lift, 112? lobe separation with .540" lift ? Always check piston to valve clearance before installation ? Stock stamped Ford rocker arms are not recommended ? OEM style dome pistons will interfere with Trick Flow?s unique combustion chamber design. Conventional flat top or dished pistons will work. Trick Flow and many aftermarket piston manufacturers make Twisted Wedge-specific flat top and dome pistons for high compression and high valve lift applications. ? TFS-51400002 uses 7/16" head bolts. Can use 1/2" bolts by drilling holes an extra 1/4". ? TFS-51400003 uses 1/2" head bolts
