Hi,

I have a 65 mustang coupe with a 289 (4 speed manual).
With stock radiator, which I have fitted a black magic Flex-a-Lite electric fan on it as seen there:
Pictures
and a stock water pump (as far as I know...)

Should I:
get one of those alu griffin radiators or get a new high flow water pump edelbrock?
I am trying to improve the cooling of the engine.

your help will be more than appreciated.
thanks

I like the idea of both but the stock water pump should work fine. The Griffin alum radiator with 2 1" cores will be more than enough even if it's 110-115* outside while using A/C. I think the radiator is more important than the water pump but both together is even better plus an aluminum Edelbrock water pump is a bit lighter than the stock cast iron pump. Sure looks nice too. The Edelbrock pump is a high volume pump with an excellent pump vane system that is a tight tolerance between the vanes and the housing. More flow and higher pressure.

With my stock Tbird, the cooling system was marginal at best. When I started on this project, I knew I would have to address this at the begining. I installed a much large aluminum radiator, and a Mark VIII fan. Now, even with a engine that puts out almost 3 times the power, it has never gone beyond 185 F. When I am on the highway above 45 mph the fan rairly comes on. Above 55, the air flow drives the temp down to the 170 degree stat temp and stays there in all but above 90 f temp, where it runs around 180f, with out the fan running. I went on a little 80 mile trip on secondary roads last Summer that went through only 2 towns. The fan never came on going or on the return trip, except going throught those towns. I am using the stock water pump.
