Normally with a 4"ish bore, .030 gets you about 6 more cubes, so .060 should net you 12 extra. So approximatley 440 cubes. Just curious, did you have the 428 block sonic checked? I`ve had several of my 428s checked, I was never confident in the numbers to go .060 over, as I personally like .150" or thicker cylinder walls after boring. I know some guys have run with walls as thin as .090" but I wouldn`t try it myself. ------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA M/Stock 302 5speed. Yes, don't know the exact #'s. The machinist who has built engines for almost forty years and has a great reputation said absolutely no problem. I hope he's right. He builds a ton of race engines for the strip and roundy-rounds that outruns and outlasts everyone elses. This is an occasional street cruiser not a racer.

should be easier to calculate properly... volume of a cylinder is:Pi x (Bore/2)^2 x stroke. Volume of a V8 would therefore be 8 times that. A 289 bored 60 over is Pi x (4.060/2)^2 x 2.875 Pi x (2.03)^2 x 2.875 Pi x 4.1209 x 2.875 Pi x 11.8475 37.22 cubic inches per cylinder 37.22 x 8 = 297.76 Its possible to see the squared relationship between bore and displacement and simplify to remove the need to know your stroke:
new bore/old bore = ratio square that ratio and multiply by the old displacement 289 example: 4.060/4 = 1.015 (ratio) 1.015^2 = 1.030225 (ratio squared) 289 x 1.030225 = 297.7 So for a 428: 4.192/4.132 = 1.01452 1.01452^2 = 1.029252 428 x 1.029252 = 440.5 If your still reading this far down you must be as boring as me.

Thanks for the techno info. So that is what those #'s meant way back in all those math classes I slept through. Really, I do know how to figure this now and appreciate your time.

You could just say it's a 30 over 390. People would ask if the SBF in my Fairlane was a 260, 289 or 302 and and my answer would be 30 over 289. No funny looks no nuthin. ------------------ -Paul 70 Mach1 351C/FMX 79 Ranchero GT 302 smogger/C4 97 Expedition XLT 5.4 00 SVT f150 Lightning 4149 of 4966 Born on: 06/26/2000 'If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes.'

I like the sound of a .040 over 428 better than a 440 mopar in my Mach.

we don't need to be like Chevy guys calling our engines 355's and 468's to differentiate them from the billions of 350's and 454's. Ford guys just don't understand 293 HiPo or Boss 308 or 433 Low Riser where a Chevy guy needs to feel special by having any rebuild specs noted in the engine title.

I agree!! I'm proud of my 428! I've had many 350's, they're everywhere. Hate it when I see an old Ford street rod with an off-breed engine in it.

Simple calculation formula. Bore x bore x stroke
then that figure x .7854
that figure x 8 = CID.
