They are real cheap.

My guy treats me right, at least I think so, and his prices are:

Cut two planes on rocker pedestals and drill and tap stud holes {351C} - $325

Bore and hone block with block plate - $120

Cut crank - $100

Change rod bolts and Resize rods -$60

His name is Billy Lloyd, he is from New Haven. Allen Hamrick at Last Lap Performance Parts recommended him, says he does very good work. he has a balancing machine too, but i didnt ask what he charges.

My block is at the machinist right now. I am paying $200 for .030 over and hone with torque plate and $115 for the crank. I am not having any head work done right now. There were less expensive shops, but this guy has a great reputation.

I've heard a lot about Billy Lloyd. He seems to be top notch! He does a LOT of race engines (mostly circle dirt track), and has been doing it for a very long time. I might take my own heads there. I woulnd't hesitate.

A good friend of mine (Ron Stewart) has a 383 in a Chevelle that runs really strong. It's a Lloyd engine, and has been going strong for ten years now and has never been apart.

I was afraid you were going to mention A-1! I wouldn't take a flathead cylinder head there, and they don't even have any valves!

ps. If you are going with screw-in studs and aftermarket rockers, use 7/16" studs. The stud bosses will also need milled for the thickness of the guide plates and hex heads of the studs for rocker clearance. (but I'm sure he knows that)

Good Luck!

you said the same thing about Billy that Allen did, so that is all i need to know. im gonna take my parts there. thats why i deal with Last Lap instead of Poske's, if Allen tells me someone is good, i take his word, ive bought parts off him since he was selling out of his garage out behind his house, and he has never done me wrong and still remembers my name when i call. alot better than i can say for the clowns at Poske's, lol.
oh mike...A1 did the motor in my GMC no wonder it never runs right), lol.
thanks
Dan
