I think I know the answer already, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I have a friend who has ford's 392 crate engine, and wants a bigger cam. He has the stock cam which is a comp cam unit, a hydraulic roller. With the comp cams roller cam conversion, will this cam work in my 289. Of course I will change the valve springs, firing order, etc. I just want to double check, before I start spending money. Thanks, Jason.

there our two ways to do a roller cam conversion if you are going to use fords Stock spider set up and tap the 1/4 holes in your lifter valley then you can use the small base circle (retro cam).. or you can get the lifters with the link bars (conversion) designed to be used with the regular base circle cams. Also make sure you use the right dist. gear to match the cam or you will eat it up.. Its not hard to do. Someone will give you more insight than I did, I hope! Bruce

You can use the FMS roller cam in an early block but you have to pay $400 for special overpriced lifters. FMS-M-6500-S58 link-bar lifters are $400! Crane sells the same thing for about $30 more. You would get the similar performance and come out a lot cheaper to go with a regular flat tappet solid lift cam.------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.50 @ 116 mph (7.33 @ 93 mph)daily driver!
