I installed a new solenoid and powermaster starter on my new 351w but im having a problem, when i turn the ignition switch the starter starts to crank when the switch is in the "on" position rather than cranking when i turn the switch from "on" to the "cranking" mode.
How can i fix this?

(and i did install the jumper wire on the starter).

Sounds like you might have hooked up a wire wrong on the solenoid or got one hooked up wrong. Is this a gear reduction or mini starter? And jumper wire, do you mean you jumped it from the positive lead on the starter to the trigger on the starter mounted solenoid? If so, I did that and found out it doesn't work that way. You have to run a wire from the trigger post on the firewall mounted solenoid to the trigger post on the battery mounted solenoid. When I just did the jumper wire thing, my starter would stay engaged and just keep spinning.

What was it you did? I'm sure I'll be making a swapping starters in the next year or so. My Autozone starter doesn't seem to love cranking my 10:1 Windsor so I'm sure I'll end up yanking it during warmer days.

Well i thought my problem was fixed but its not. I tried eliminating the jumper and routing a wire from the small trigger post on the starter to the post on the fender solenoid where the original start wire used to go, then i took the wire from the large post on the starter and connected that to the 12v side of the fender solenoid and the starter still cranked when the switch was in the "on" position rather than the "cranking" position. The guy from powermaster said it might be the actual ignition switch or the solenoid.

What do you guys think?

So you replaced the starter and solenoid at the same time and the problem started after you did that? If it was fine before, try to install your old fender mounted solenoid and see what happens then.
