I have a e-qui-loc rear 3rd member. There is no fill plug or level to check the gear lube. Is there a way to change the gear lube without removeing the 3rd member gasket ? Would it be at all poseble to tap a fill plug in the case without weakening the third-mem. This is a war-case I beleive. Any input would be app. THANKS sodi

You can drill and tap a hole in the housing.
A simpler method for the time being, would be to remove and axle and then siphon out the old gear oil.
You can then add new lube through the axle tube.

I have a war case in our burnout truck and that has the newer style housing that had no fill plug in it. I just drilled and tapped to 1/4" pipe thread in the case where the fill hole should be. Seems to work just fine. But like Alex said, if you dont want to pull the 3rd member out, then take out an axle and do it that way.

If you are going to drill and tap the case, I would do 3/8" pipe thread or maybe even 1/2" pipe thread. Not sure what size stock is but I know 1/4" is a fair amount smaller.

Go with the 1/2" pipe thread plug. If I can get my 3/8" ratchet in the square thingy, it has to be 1/2" or bigger.
