I love a lopey sounding idle, but through my reading and learning here, I know that a lumpier cam isn't always the best choice.I think I know what I want generally, but I still don't quite have it all down as far as cams go. This is what I have now: -1973 460 block .030 over (466ci) -Performer 460 intake -Holley 600cfm vs carb -everything else stock -unknown cam Here is what I want to do (it's in my budget I hope):
-Holley 850cfm carb - from what I've read, I want to stay with vs for an auto tranny -Long tube headers -Don't know if I'll bother with a different intake as I don't really plan on spinning it more than 5,500-6k rpms. If I could find a killer deal on some better heads, I might change the plan a little, but I don't see that happening right now.
It will be going into my 68F-100 2wd short bed. It is heavy so I don't think I want to give up much torque. I see that Comp has a 270 cam for the 460. Alex and others have suggested the cam for the smallblock Ford as a great all around hot street cam. In fact, I have one sitting on my shelf right now. Is it a good choice for the 460 also? Or is there a better choice? I want to be able to send an SRT-10 home whimpering. Will I be able to with my plan, or is it back to the drawing board?

Not to question your expertise. Isn't that a step down from the 270? I know you have been there and done that, just wondering why the step down.Edumacate me. "268H will do exactly what you want." Even spank an SRT-10 at the track? Mopar claims a 13.8 1/4 mile time. 500hp/525ftlbs. I hope my truck doesn't weigh as much though. The SRT-10 is supposed to weigh 5,000lbs. Based on your plans, and goals the 268H will give you the idle, sound of a larger cam yet retain great throttle response and pull right up to the high 5k range. Very torquy and a cylinder packer. Don't forget to use the early timing gears.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS!
