hey we're currenly restoring a old drag race pinto and are stuck about what to do about rear suspension... the car is a race-only '70 pinto with a 289 conversion, it has the 9 inch rear end, with gears somewhere in the 4's, most likely 4.11 but i'm not positive yet. I was hoping to hear some of the pros and cons between leaf springs, ladder bars, or a 4-link. thanks any and all feed back is appreciated.

Short WB car like that would benefit most from a 4 link coil over. Downside is cost. Leaf ladder with a floater is almost idiot proof if properly engineered, but is a monster wheel stander. Upside is cost.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! hey, ok well i have heard that the ladder bar system may be too big for the pinto... anyways, i heard a 4-link can cost up to a couple grand which is more than i was hoping for. can someone explain the "leaf ladder with a floater" set up?

I'm too lazy to type it all. Read about it here > http://www.cachassisworks.com/------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Narrowing it down,http://www.cachassisworks.com/iwwidb.pvx?;multi_item_submit http://www.cachassisworks.com/iwwidb.pvx?;multi_item_submit http://www.cachassisworks.com/iwwidb.pvx?;multi_item_submit The first one is the ladder bars, the second one is the crossmember, and the third is the floater. Not sure if it's gonna work though since they have the same html addy. SteveW Edit, Nope, you'll have to go to rear suspension and check them out. You can make or buy ladder bars from 25 to 40 inches long. Most drag race pinto's with leaf springs use a short ladder bar/floater system with great results.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! KVs old Granada had homemade floaters on leaf springs with ladder bars. Worked pretty good once we got the preload right.Only drawback I see is the same one we had. If you use the stock subframes and spring mount points the springs will limit tire size significantly. We had wheels with the least amount of backspace possible and could only get an 11 inch tire on it. We got way more out of that setup than we should have! ------------------ 63 Falcon 377 Cleveland stroker Flying Toilet alchohol injection. 6.19 @ 110 MPH 1/8 mile 2002 Ranger FX4 daily driver 2000 F350 PSD Crew cab dually - Like commuting in a B52!! 98 US Cargo Phantom II 28'

Spencer did not mention that we removed the current suspension/rear axle to clean and investigate. Someone previously drilled through the leafs and bolted plates and the right side was notched. I am not sure if they would need replaced if we go to a floater system.... Sam
