One Ford got a national record this weekend at the Montgomery, AL open event, ME! New ET for D/SA is a 10.80, down from a 10.89 that was set in October. Unfortunately, the old record was a Ford too, same combo as mine, '71 429SCJ Mustang (sorry Vic), but at least we kept it in the family. It was good to meet Steve and Horace Johnson this weekend too. Sorry about the wheelie incident. [This message has been edited by ciscokid (edited 12-13-2004).]

Thanks guys! I don't have a DA calculator myself, but most folks were giving numbers in the -100 to -350 feet range on Saturday. There was a COLD tailwind blowing all day, but it wasn't enough to get me the MPH side of the record. Lots of records fell, a bunch in S/S. Long wait for the tech guys to CC heads. They were pouring runners for both S/S and stock, which was suprising.Shawn.. the 390 is gonna be a great combo... until someone messes up and goes too fast. NHRA is quick to give us Fords HP. We got 5 at the beginning of last year even though no-one had gone quick enough to trigger the AHFS. Are you planning on going to Bradenton or Gainesville? Bill

Congratulations Bill. Nice job. Thanks Alex! The quickest Denny had gone in the car was 10.88 in Houston sometime back in the 90's in mineshaft conditions. As you know, hook has always been a weak point in this nose heavy sucker, but aftermarket disks and some serious attention to weight removal on the front end has made a world of difference in the ability to get this thing to work well. It is still a challenge every time I go out, but I'm starting to get a better feel for what I have to do to deal with lousy tracks. The Goodyear radials really work well on this car and I have discovered that footbraking instead of using a two-step make a huge difference in getting the car to launch cleanly. I think it likes the accelerator pump shot and the power comes one more smoothly than with the two-step which helps keep it from breaking the tires loose on the initial impulse. A lot of stockers were having a heck of a time at Mongomery, as was I at first, but I was able to make adjustments to get the car to 60 at 1.40 consistantly, which is good for me at 3600 lbs. I hope our paths cross one of these days. I'd like to meet you sometime. Are you going to do any NHRA races this year? Maybe the Sportsnationals? I usually attend the Rockingham IHRA races, maybe you will try to make it there? Bill H.

Bill, I have not decided yet. I think Bradenton will be the place to be but I am not sure if I will make it or not. It's a long haul and I have some work to do on the car. I am making a few changes. I know what you mean about HP. We made some pretty good progress on the dyno last week so I am going to have to be careful. I think I might run C and run it a little heavy. They like to hit us fords. Especially with all the whinners out here.

Amen! There wasn't another automatic 289 SS out there that could run a second under much less 1.15, yet they still whacked me! SO much for the AHFS averaging huh? ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS!
