I've got an 89 5.0 freshly rebuilt and installed, but after first fire and timing i took it down the road about an 1/8 mile. Within that time it got way hot so i shut it down and coasted home. when i popped the hood i saw antifreeze bubbling out of the valve cover on the driver side, and dripping out of the fire wall under the heater core. I went ahead and bypassed the heater core and drained the oil and it was all milky. Now I'm just scratching my head wondering where this could be coming from, any ideas would help....

Could be an intake gasket not sealed at the water passage, I suppose.Regardless, its a gasket or something cracked. I suspect you'll be taking it back out of the car. ------------------ 63 Falcon 377 Cleveland stroker Flying Toilet alchohol injection. 6.19 @ 110 MPH 1/8 mile 2002 Ranger FX4 daily driver 2000 F350 PSD Crew cab dually - Like commuting in a B52!! 98 US Cargo Phantom II 28'

Assuming you meant it really was bubbling out of the valve cover, Id say the head on that side is cracked. Im thinking most likely its intake gaskets from the intake not being sealed to the heads and allowing coolant to run across the top of the valve cover.

Well, I figured out why it was bubbling out of the valve cover, it helps when you put the gasket around the lip of the head instead of in the cover itself.....lol. Changed the intake gasket and took care of the water in the oil problem. Now I'm thinking that I got ahold of a bad thermostat. Drove it last night and it was fine until I just about pulled into my driveway then it got hot again. Going to change that tonight. Let you know how it goes.

Well, I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and pull the head off and have it checked.

Putting a hand held pressure tester in place of the radiator cap and bringing the pressure up to 10-12 lbs may give you an idea where the water is coming from. Pulling all the spark plugs while pressure testing can also help identify which cylinder is an issue if indeed one of the heads is an issue.Ted. ------------------ Ted E.
