Greg,Here's some stats to the 408W: Rods - Eagle 6.250 4350 H-beam Crank - Eagle 4340 forged knife edged SRP pistons (flat tops) Speed pro plasma moly rings Cloyes Double Roller chain Comp Cams solid roller cam 35-772-8 286/292 248/254 @ .050 .610/621 lift LSA 110, C/L 106, installed at 105, overlap 69 degrees @ .015" Heads - Edelbrock Victor Jr's 2.05/1.60 valves Rockers - Harland Sharp aluminum rollers Springs - 195#s closed 350+ @ .600 Intake - Edelbrock Victor Jr. ported to heads Fully balanced Milodon pan & pick up MSD billet Distributor It is a very reliable engine, I adjust the valves twice a years whether they need it or not, and change the oil. It gets new plugs every other year. The rotating assly is heavy, and she keeps the rpms down around 6500. Good luck with the 408 short block, SteveW

Have you done any porting on the heads? I just purchased a set of AFR 185's for the current combo that I have now and was wondering if they would be ok for the 408 stroker.------------------ 1968 coupe 351W, Bored.030,Stock Crank, Stock Rods,Decked,KB Hyper. flat top pistons. Greg they have been port matched, but that's all. I think 185s are a little small, but it depends on how high you want to spin the stroker.SteveW

Greg, I know of several 408's that make 540-550HP with the 185 heads. Just clean up the first 1" of both port entries with a sand roll and then hand sand all the CNC ribs out of the ports, raduises, and chambers and you're ready to rock.------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.50 @ 116 mph (7.33 @ 93 mph)daily driver!
