I will be needing headers to fit some large exhaust ports on a 347 stroker. The port exits measure 1.4" X 1.5". Any ideas on headers that might match those dimensions and still fit in a '65 Fastback.------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.50 @ 116 mph (7.33 @ 93 mph)daily driver! my hookers fit great, no problem with the z-bar. the only thing is that with 1 5/8 primaries, the tubes are still smaller than the exaust ports on the heads. i tried to die grind on the flange a little but really should be running a 1 3/4 header. i dont think hooker makes a long tube comp header for my 306 that will fit like this one in the bigger size. im not even going to think about what a nightmare headman or some other brand would be. ------------------ coupe, 306, 4 speed, 4.11's. pump gas, n/a street car. best so far is 7.48 (1/8 mile) at 93mph with 1.64 60ft. 11.80 at 113 on greased 1/4 track.

The best (biggest) off the shelf headers are Hooker supercomps. Not sure if they'll be big enough for those heads though. SteveW

Accufab makes 1-3/4" headers for 65-66 mustangs using either 289/302 engines or the 351W.quoted from another board... George Klass at Accufab hand builds all their headers per order and can customize them with steps and different flanges for minimal cost. George is building my headers and unlike the Hookers and other cheap assembly line production headers George welds the OUTSIDE of the primary to the flange so there is no weld in the port. For $500 you can buy a better quality header. Mine is a '65-'70 Mustang application with the 1 3/4" primaries, 31" long, a 3" Dart bolt pattern head flange, and 3" collectors. http://www.accufabracing.com/exhaust.htm The same headers are also sold by CPR. Here's a listing with a little more info on those. http://www.cprparts.com/products/headers/headers_racecar.html http://www.cprparts.com/products/headers/headers_sportsman.html Good Luck! ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220

I've got some rusty Hooker SC's hangin around in the shop and the flange shape just won't match up right to these larger chevy style exhaust ports on the AFR's. I know the hedmans won't do either. Anyone have experience with Accufab or CPR? ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.50 @ 116 mph (7.33 @ 93 mph)daily driver! I would suggest a conversation with Sanderson Headers. www.sanderson.comIf they don't have an off the shelf fit? , they can certainly make what you need

I just returned from the PRI show in Indy. I asked the guys at AFR about headers that would match up with their exhaust ports, as of to date there are none (Off the shelf). But Headman was right next to their booth and they are working on some that would match. They told me that they(Headman) were using a 65 body for fitment and would hope to have them ready by Feb. I spoke to a lot of custom guys and they all were in the $1,500 plus range for custom headers. I need to find a set for my 68 with the AFR 185 heads.------------------ 1968 coupe 351W, Bored.030,Stock Crank, Stock Rods,Decked,KB Hyper. flat top pistons. I may just have to "ream out" these old Hookers and have them coated until the dealers start to come around. Large SBF heads are here to stay and are very popular. If someone comes out with a decent OTS header for these bigger heads, they'll make a fortune. ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.50 @ 116 mph (7.33 @ 93 mph)daily driver! Quick question then Say you have 400hp from an aluminum headed 351W or a stroker 302. How much power will you gain from matching the header size perfectly to the exhaust port? Seems like theres something left but im not sure your going to uncork a lot of power, maybe 5-10hp?

5-10HP here and there adds up to a lot if you pay close attention to detail on everything else. What is the sense in having a $1800 set of high-flowing 600HP heads if you are going to choke them off with a $100 set of ill fitting headers or a restricted intake manifold? ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.50 @ 116 mph (7.33 @ 93 mph)daily driver! Im not sniffing at 5-10 hp so long as it doesnt cost me $1000 in custom headers. Thats not good bang for the buck. Im really wondering what its worth though, it might be worth more than that, or less... Or it might be worth 5-10hp but cost me some low down torque if I need to go to larger 1-3/4 runners...------------------ '68 coupe, '66 289 C code engine, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm
