What is the most practical way to modify a 351 cleveland with a solid roller to oil everything properly and not get over oiled in the top.

Welcome to M&M ! Most practical and economical is to use main galley restrictors. Several kits are available. Best way is to bush and restrict the lifter bores along with the main galley restrictors.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Thanks Alex. In one of your past post you discussed a setup for the 351c that was going into a pantera. The cam you recomended was a comp roller with a duration of 270-276 duration at .50 and 648-641 lift installed at 105 cl. I believe your combo with 4V open chamber heads made close to 600hp. I am building a stroker cleveland and want to follow your specs as close as can be. I know of a company that makes aussie aluminum heads 4V and 2V with either 50cc or 64cc choice of chambers. Using these heads with your selection of roller cam, stroker size of your choice and around 11.5 compression, what kind of HP would I expect? Would the combo run on 93 octane? I am running a stick in my 70 Mach 1 with 373 gear. Can you help me pick the right motor combo? Thanks, Billy

You don't need aluminum heads to make 600HP. I would spend the money making the block hold up. Good block prep and super balancing will be needed. Running pump gas with 11.5:1 compression will run the risk of detination which can really put a hurt on the block. I'm not saying you can't do it. I am doing it myself. I'm just saying, be prepared for the risk. Proper chambers and quench along with a soft tune up helps.------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 408C 4V, best time to date is 10.50 best MPH 127

Scat forged 4" Crank, 6" H-beams, Ross inverted dome pistons. 11:1 compression with 64cc polished closed chambers. Garage ported 4V heads. Cam 258/268* @ .050", .630/.660" lift. Strip Dominator with Holley 750DP. It runs on pump gas and has gone 10.50 at 127mph in the 1/4. 6.65 at 103mph in the 1/8 on 10" DOT Hoosiers and 3125 pounds. ------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 408C 4V, best time to date is 10.50 best MPH 127

On KVs old car, we took off a 750 annular discharge and bolted on an out of the box 950HP. Picked up 3 tenths. Might be worth a try if you could borrow one someplace.

We made sure the machine work was 100% clearances were right. We ran the external oil feed line to the rear main, did not use oil restrictors, crane cams says not to use them with the roller lifter, what they dont tell you is that if you run a roller cam with over .700 lift after lash is set ,you need to bush the lifter bores, the lifter will rise to far out of the bore and bleed off oil pressure. Mike 2 cleveland turing 7500 all day long and no oiling problems ever! running 6.50's 1/8 mile

Well, I never ran the line to the back (think it's un-necassary on 90% of the clevelands built), had good clearances, restrictors in the mains, deep pan, HV pump with the Moroso spring, spun the motor 7500 and ran 6.30's without any problems with a best of 6.18. All while using stock rods, a factory crank, and home ported open chamber 4v heads. Correcting the oiling issues is relatively easy, making the block strong enough to handle the power the heads are capable of making, isn't easy.[This message has been edited by kid vishus (edited 12-25-2004).]
