A 1.391 The track and weather apparently also got better as everyone seemed to pick up too.John Calvert still had some problems but at least he got down the track this time. Freddie is a hard racer and a good friend. he has been running that 69 CJ Mustang for a long, long time. He seldom leaves the comfortable confines of the left coast as do most of his division 7 NHRA conterparts. Seems that they can't bring that "California air" with them if they travel east. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Like a true driver, John rode it out to a safe landing. When he hit second gear it went higher yet, so he cracked third and gently (as gently as possible anyway) brought it back down and coasted through. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! John Calvert got down the track this time. Mark either broke, missed a gear, or....? He did not pick up and he should have. I have not talked to him yet. Good news and bad news.Good news is that John Calvert won first round and kept it somewhat sane. Mark ran his quickest and fastest ET ever at sea level. 10.53 @ 124 MPH. Sixty was also best ever 1.377 (getting close to me) Bad news is that he was #30 and had to run the #1 qualifier SS/AA Hemi car of Rick Houser. Mark dialed a 10.59 and was a tad late causing him to leg it out as that big a$$ Hemi was a-honkin' at 152+ MPH. Oh well, there's always next year. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! I raced Rick in the first round, He wasn't off with me .022 light 8.663 on an 8.66 dial to my .071 10.537 on an 10.59 dial. While I would have gotten the next Bye Run I would have had to race John in the 3rd round, You see John "Gets it Done" my performance was a Bitter Sweet result. Thanks to Alex for making some good calls on tuning for the air, While the condition were pretty good for Pomona in November I expect to see low 10.40's at the Winter Nationals next year; typically it's a 10th faster there. We had a "Great Time" there and I got to meet Rory McNeil who flew down from Canada to attend, He spent most of Thursday and Friday in our Mustang Corral.

Mark, I had a great time meeting & hanging out with you,Richy Pauly, Calvert, as well as Ward Alston with the blue 5.0 Mustang Stocker from New York. Also hung out with several other racers I know, including Stock winner Jody Lang, as well as the Waldo`s(even if 2 of their 3 Stockers are GM`s now . Nice meeting Bob Pott too. If you think my story of getting TO Pomona via the MetroLink was bad, getting back to Anaheim Friday night ended up with a $60.00 Taxi ride!! I should have just rented a car. Oh well, live & learn, eh? The airplane ride home was another fiasco. I think I`ll just do the 22 hour drive next time. ------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA M/Stock 302 5speed. Well, Alex, our hotel was in Anaheim, as most of our vacation was spent at Disneyland. The main reason we went to California that weekend was to catch at least 1 day at Pomona. Since our hotel was only 2 blocks from Disneyland, & we flew in, we had not needed a rental car. In the National Dragster, there was mention of a Metrolink commuter rail line, that stopped just outside the entrance to the Fairplex. Sounded great. However, the Fairplex stop, is on the "San Bernardino line" route, but our hotel was in Anaheim, which is on the "Orange County line". But by looking at the Metrolink line online, before we left, I noticed that the "Orange County line" & the "San Bernardino lines" both went to a major terminal in LA, called Union Station. So, I figured since this IS a commuter rail system, that I could simply transfer from the "Orange County" train, onto the "San Bernardino", and I would arrive at Pomona in plenty of time, as the first "O.C." train left at 4.44am. So, I request a 4.00 am wake up call, get ready, & jump in a taxi to the Metrolink station in Anaheim, which is kinda spooky that early in the morning. Unfortunatley, we arrived just after the 4.44 train left, meaning I had to wait over a hour, for the 5.55 train. OK, I may be a little behind schedule, but I should still be at Pomona before 8.00, in time for Stock & S/S. Jump on the 5.55 am train, heading toward LA Union, when I finally get a "San Bernardino line" schedule. I couldn`t find one in Anaheim). The train I~m on is scheduled to aqrrive at LA Union at 7.00, however, there is no "San Bernardino" train leaving LA Union until after 9.00am!! Now I`m concerned. I get off at LA Union station (which by the way is freaking HUUGE!!), & ask around, & am told that the #480 bus goes to Pomona. Great, I walk past the begging "street people", find the 480 bus stop, and around 7.30, I`m on the bus. I pick up a schedule, & lo & behold, yes, the 480 bus DOES go to Pomona, but nowhere near the Fairplex. I ask the driver, she says I need to switch to to a different bus further down, which I do. I eventually arrive at the track at 9.15am, just in time for S/S. (Stock had already ran earlier) I met Mark, & some others, & was happy to hear that both Stock & S/S would get another session around 5.00 PM. However, about 4.30,a NHRA official said that the Alcohol "leakers" wer running late (hard to imagine!) so the final Stock & S/S session was cancelled.Shortly after that was confirmed, I decided to leave. Looking at my Metrolink schedule, I found out that the 5.35PM train to LA Union would arrive at 6.40, but the LAST Anaheim bound train left LA Union at 6.20!! Now I`m stuck. I walked around the Fairplex looking for either a hotel (Good luck!!), or car rental agengy (Nope!!)for about 1 1/2 hours, then I called a cab. A $60.00 cab ride, and I was back at my hotel, by 8.15PM. Next time, I`ll just rent a car!------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA M/Stock 302 5speed. Now for the flight home part of my adventure!First off, I don`t fly that often, so I was foolishly of the understanding that since our flight plan was to leave LAX at 5.45PM,Sunday evening, stop at Seattle for a 2 hour layover, then leave Sea-Tac Airport at 10.10 for the flight to Vancouver, that was what would occur. I was WRONG! First off, our Airport shuttle bus arrived with 8 empty seats, however there were about 14 people at the bus stop. Luckily, my wife & I were the last 2 people to get seated. When we got to the airport, we were informed our 5.45 flight was delayed until 9.45, PLUS since we couldn`t possibly be in Seattle by 10.10, we would have to stay in Seattle overnight, & fly out at 7.00 am the following morning. I am NOT impressed. After a few minutes of pouting, my wife went to the airlines booth and they somehow managed to get us 2 seats on a direct LA to Vancouver flight at 7.45PM, which would mean that we would be home a bit earlier than the original plan. Now I`m smiling again. However, about 15 minutes before we are to board the plane, they annouce that the flight is overbooked, & that they are looking for 8 "voluenteers" to give up their seats, in exchange for a free hotel room, plus a free future flight. We HAD to get home, as we had arranged for housesitter-dogsitters while we were away, but they needed to leave after dinner, so our 2 dogs were alone in the house, plus I had to be back for work. Luckily, the 8 voluenteers were found, so we boarded the plane. However since 9/11, the airlines are not allowed to let passengers get off the plane without their luggage. SOOO, we had to wait 40 minutes while the poor baggage handlers dug thru over 300 pieces of luggage to retrive the offending suitcases. THEN we left. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I "won" the honor of being selected at the airport security check, for additional scruitny. Although I wasn`t subjected to the rubber glove & flashlight exam, it just added to my flying pleasure. I won`t even get into the story of wating 45 minutes at the airport resturant, only to find that our order had gotton misplaced! Oh, the joys of travel!!------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA M/Stock 302 5speed. Quite an adventure Rory. I feel your pain.Rule #1 when flying to So Cal.. NEVER, NEVER fly into LAX! Ontario Airport is much more user friendly and a cab ride from the Fairplex is only about $25 with tip. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS!
