Hi This is my first post here, Great site BTW. I have just installed the e-brock RPM heads on my 306 and I am not happy with the power results. Below is my current combo;302 bored 30 over Edelbrock RPM heads 1.9 intake/1.6 exhaust 270 comp cam magnum Crane roller tip rockers 1.6 ratio Edelbrock 600 cfm carb Edelbrock RPM intake K&N air cleaner MSD billet distributor MSD 6al box MSD wires and coil Hedman shorty headers 2.5 inch piping with H pipe Flowmaster mufflers Richmond 4.11 gears Centerforce dual friction 11 inch clutch. Now, My old heads that I took off were 1980 stock 302 heads with a wimpy 1.78/1.5 valves and huge 69cc chambers. With these old heads I was only making about 8.5 to 1 comp. With the e-brock heads I am at about 9 to 1 comp. With my current combo I should be running high 12's to low 13's on slicks. My old combo was running 14.7 on street tires. I think my current combo should be bang on, All the parts match up well. However when I spent $1900 (CDN) on these heads and roller rockers I would have thought that they would work better than my ****ty stock 302 heads. Anyone out there running these heads and like them? These heads for all the money appear to be not better than stock heads at best. Any ideas on the above mentioned would be greatly appreciated. Thanks once again.

Welcome to M&M ! Nice combo ecept......for the carb. What is your total timing set at for starters?Lose the Jimmy Carter carb and replace it with a nice 650 or 700 DP Holley and you'll then realize your new found HP potential.

Thanks for the welcome moneymaker - I have the total timing set at 36. I have the advance in by 3000 RPM. Your right the e-brock carb has to go, It's definately not going to cut it. I will be going with a 650 DP for the track next spring for sure.Any ideas on how much HP more current combo is making? I was thinking about 350 HP to the flywheel. Thanks once again.

The heads are fine. You are not utilizing their potential. Timing is right on, but should be locked in at 36.Not really in a position to speculate on your HP as there are way too many variables and not enough usable data for a conclusion. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Yes, there's a 'cork' or two in your system.I agree that the most obvious is the carb. CFM wise, those Edelbrock carbs are over rated. Whatever size Holley you would use, step up a size for an Edelbrock. A 650 Double Pumper would work really well on your car for top end performance. If the car sees a lot of regular go-getter streeet type driving, a 750 Edelbrock (along with one of their calibration kits) would be a better match. Edelbrock carbs are easy to tune, provide great throttle response, and produce MUCH better fuel mileage than a Holley. I wouldn't hit a dog in the ass with a 'generic' Holley 600 or 750 vacuum secondary carb. Get the double pumper or the 750 Edelbrock. Oh yea... Exhaust. Were the openings of the headers ground out to match the port size on the heads? Was that even checked? Hold the gasket up to each to see if any opening up needs done... But most importantly, what did you do for tailpipes? If you had a muffler shop bend up 2.5" tailpipes, they are going to be crimped up and crushed all to sh*t. If you run tailpipes, they NEED to be the $99/pr Flowmaster mandrel bent units. I'm assuming the car has GOOD free flowing mufflers, and not just some generic muffler shop crap. Many of these will indeed have 2.5" inlets and outlets, but will be tiny and restrictive inside. Thanks guys - My mind is set, Holley 650 DP. n2oMike I never checked the header fitment in relation to the port size on the heads. I will pull the headers off and open them up a little more with a dremel to match the port size on the heads. Good point thanks. As fot the exhaust, I have 2.5 inch piping with a H pipe, And 40 series flowmaster mufflers. I do not have any tailpipes on it right now. I will be ordering the mandrel bent tailpipes from flowmaster soon. Thanks once again.
