Dad and I went for a drive tonight and right before I got home, I wound up it and ran it through the gears. I was shifting at around 7,000 rpms and all of a sudden, it smelled like antifreeze and the window streamed up(its only like 39 here right now). This is the 2nd one now in a little over a year that has popped. Can I install a restrictor or something in my heater hose line to not have so much pressure and volume going through it? I'll be getting my Edelbrock Victor series waterpump soon and I'm sure that wont help things out at all. What do I do? ------------------ 1982 Ford F100 2wd Shortbox. 357 Cleveland with TRW forged flat-top slugs, rods reconditioned w/ARP bolts and fully balanced. Ray said it best in this old post: quote: Originally posted by 7DMACH1: First you can plug the holes in the engine with pipe plugs. As far as a problem with blowing out heater cores, Ford had a Tech. service bulletin in 1968 or 69 for this problem on all big block cars. It was to put a restrictor in the hoses right before the core to slow the flow. Almost all newer cars have them too, they come in a new Ford heater hose but if you put on aftermarket they don't and most people don't know to take them out of the old hose. The restrictors are still avail. from Ford. Part #E1DZ-18D358-B 5/8" OR E7VY-18D358-A 3/4" A little pricey though. Another way is to put a nut in the hose to slow the flow.

Dustin, I have a restrictor that I made for my car that you can have if it'll work for you, I have another one in my car now, I did this because of this problem and because of the fact that the heater cores are know to blow apart with high rpm and high pressure, another trick is to weld a washer onto the inlet fiting to slow the flow, let me know if you want the spacer sometime, only problem is it's going to go to the heater core before it restricts, so you may be better using the washer trick depending on which hose your blowing off. EDIT: just reread your post, your blowing the core, not the hose, so the spacer in my drawer will fix it, you can stop by and pick it up tommorow if you want, I should be home.------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 306 with 600 holley, Weiand Stealth intake, headers, mme custom roller cam, harland sharp roller rockers, kb pistons, 10.3:1 compression ratio, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. My question is, which side is the inlet and outlet side? I'm guessing the inlet is the side that comes from the block and the outlet goes into the waterpump. Is that correct? I don't want to install the restrictor on the outlet side.------------------ 1982 Ford F100 2wd Shortbox. 357 Cleveland with TRW forged flat-top slugs, rods reconditioned w/ARP bolts and fully balanced.
