Can anyone direct me to a post that I believe I saw on this board about NHRA not allowing a Ford based engine in Top Alcohol or perhaps Alcohol Funny Car. I've done some searching but haven't been able to come up with anything. Thanks, Mike

I thought that it was kinda strange that NHRA would act so strongly, considering NOBODY has gone fast with the Boss 429 engine in the fast blown classes. For several years, Chuck Seyler tried running one in Top Fuel, but I don`t think he ever even qualified with it. Several years back, the Jordan Bros. from the West coast had a semi competitive Boss 429 TA/FC, which quite often would qualify mid pack, & actually DID win a National Event, but they won only after their final round opponent (Brad Anderson, I believe?) crossed the center line & was dis qualified. The Jordan car was driven by Dennis Pierrano (sp?), and later, current Top Fuel racer Gary Scelzi. The Austin clan are among the best innovators in the Alcohol ranks, but to arbitrarily ban the Ford engine before it ever ran in competition is unbelievable.Very heavy handed indeed. However, it`s not the first time NHRA has basically rendered a "new idea" obsolete, in short order. Several years back, the PSI "screw type" supercharger was released for T/F, F/C, & the alcohol classes. It worked well, & was much more durable than the Roots superchargers, but NHRA soon banned it in the Fuel classes, & later banned it in the alcohol classes for quite a while, supposedly for saftey concerns. NHRA later allowed it again (in alcohol classes), but kept making overdrive "adjustments" until it basically "just went away". THe same deal with the Santo`s family`s cool T/AD SB Chevy. I`m a total Ford guy, but it was neat to watch the little "mouse" motor running with the big Hemi`s.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA M/Stock 302 5speed. It's all about the money with NHRA! Ford no longer supports NHRA directly with any serious sponsor monies. Remember in late '99 when Force was to introduce the new SN-95 body at Reading and GM pictched a fit? (justifiably so) NHRA renegged on the aggrement to alow Force and Ford to run the new 99 body since GM did not have their cars ready. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Just like NASCAR, the NHRA is moving away from innovation, and more toward 'spec' cars where everyone has to be the same. They want to put on more of a 'show' than a race. ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220 [This message has been edited by n2oMike (edited 11-02-2004).]
