What do people think of a flow rate of 292 CFM at .600 for 4bbl heads on a 408 cleveland stroker motor? This is after porting. Target is 500HP with solid roller cam, strip dom, hooker headers, pump gas.L&M is taking forever on my build. They got the engine on 7/14, new heads on 8/10 and the strip dom on 9/15. It took forever to get the crank and now we are waiting on pistons. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'm getting very frustrated. [This message has been edited by 71Mach1 (edited 11-02-2004).]

Yesterday was the 7th anniv of my picking up the car in conn. What a bad ride I had back in the rain on the conn turnpike. Slip sliding away.As seems to be the case quite often with this project, the car is in parts in PA getting work done. Engine in one place, the rest in another. Hopefuly before too long everything will be back to together and running.

L&M built mine with stock 4v heads, solid roller .623 and [email protected]. Torker intake, dynomax headers. Made 537 hp at 6300 rpm. ------------------ PHOTO ALBUMS UPDATED 10/25/04 http://community.webshots.com/user/7dmach1 CRUISE NIGHT WEB SITE http://www.geocities.com/phillycruisenite/ NEXT CRUISE 4/23/05

Just talked to Michael at L&M Engines. He just got your pistons from J&E after 15 weeks. When he built my motor it was the same way. Got engine first week of Aug. got back just in time for Christmas. Two years and no problems on mine. Your build was the reason that I initially went to L&M.How long did your build take? Did L&M do flow tests on the heads? He seemed to think that some porting was needed to get to 500 even with a solid roller.

500hp should be no problem at all. I've never had mine on the dyno, but it's built like you discribed and runs mid 10s on pump gas. If that ain't 500+hp I don't know what its. Heads are mildly ported by me and the compression is 11:1. I have no idea what they flow.------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 408C 4V, best time to date is 10.50 best MPH 127

Sounds pretty typical to me. Both sets of heads I pocket ported on the intakes flowed in that range. One was 299 cfm, the other was slightly less. I would think with that displacement and your other parts, it will make 500+ hp without much problem.
