Tried a new shifter handle that was shorter. The leverage must have been off (or I was). Kept missing gears. Best run missing 3rd gear was 11.50 @ 122 mph.

Changed back to old shifter handle and finally hit all gears.

This was the result
60' 1.635
330 4.691
1/8 7.212 @ 97.88
1000 9.318
1/4 11.054 @127.80

My best 60' of the day was 1.592

Just missed my 10 second goal. I guess I shouldn't take a year between trips to the strip.

i have 2 hurst shifters, i think they are called comp. plus. one was for my old 3 speed, one for my toploader 4 speed. i took one handle and cut a few inches out of it below the boot, welded it up. it shortened the throw a little, took a short time to get used to. i had already bought 2 shifters, they aint cheap, wasnt about to shoot another wad for the one i shouldve gotten.

Yeah,

Your mph says you should be running low 10's. That 1.6 60'r is what really killed your et. You should be in the 1.4s and running 10.30s in the 1/4. But, I am thinking of c-4 et's. Good job though on the new mph! Your car is really hauling butt!!

Wow, you're building some major MPH between the 1/8th and the 1/4 mile. You're picking up right around 30 MPH. That's a ton.

I don't mean this to sound bad but this indicates to me that something in the first half is slowing you down some. I don't know whether it may be traction or shifting or maybe even the fuel system not quite keeping up. Anyway I would suspect whenever you get it all fixed up it's going to pull about 100 in the 1/8th and 128 MPH in the 1/4. Then you should see some 10's.

It was a weird day. The shorter shifter really threw me off. It was way too small. There was also an intermittant 30 mph wind.

I was so deliberate to hit every shift since I knew it was my last run I did not speed shift from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to third. I did speed shift from 3rd to 4th.

This is just a street car I race once or twice a year so there appears to be quite a bit of driver error here.

I planned to got Sat. also but with cold temps and a wind out the the S.W. at 35 MPH I decided not to go.

I' really only looking for a 9 sec. run and I knew the track prep would be iffy and the track cold. The humidity was also fairly high which wouldn't have helped my quest.

Are you spinning on the launch?

If you are running street tires, I imagine the spin is a big problem. Spin tends to produce big MPH.

Those are impressive numbers, regardless, for a heavy street car.

If you can get it hooking, you'll probably start breaking driveline parts. Stick shifts kindof tend to do that.

Hopefully I'll get a chace to see it run next year.

You're car really screams though, that's for sure.

I know where you're coming from with the driving skills. I have a 70 torino cobra street car with 521 ci and a 4 speed toploader that I run with 10" tires. I only race about twice a year with it. I just made my first few passes with the new engine this summer and the first thing I realized is that I'm a terrible driver (LOL).

The first time I took it to the track I only got two runs. My first run I missed every gear (yes every gear). Second run I decided to granny shift it and ran 10.89 @131 MPH with a 1.72 sixty foot. I was really pleased because that was my first 10 second pass ever. But it totally amazed me how quickly the engine reved and how challenging it was to figure how to shift it that quickly.

A few weeks later I took it back with my ET street tires and it was running low 11's @ 131 MPH (spinning). Then a friend let me borrow some ET drag slicks and also by that point my shifting was improving. I made a couple of back to back passes in the 10.50's. Ended up running 1.55 sixty foot and 10.51 @ 132.5 MPH. That was really beyond my expectations.

I'd say you're car easily has some 10 second passes in it. No doubt about it the way it's pulling on the big end. It's got a ton of potential.
