I see from the factory that up 67 (C & A codes) Ford used one flywheel then 68 on a different one for the 289 and 302s (C & J codes). The 351s used yet another flywheel and bell housing comb. Im pretty sure they are interchangeable provided the flywheel, bell housing and starter are a match set. What size clutches where available stock and since I will be going aftermarket what size should I get? It would be for a slightly modified 302 of 351C for street use with an occasional run down the track. This would all be hooked up to 4-spd toploader that if my memory is working this morning has a wide ratio gear set. ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

260-289-302 standard OEM was 10 inch. Hipo stuff was 10.5 inch. Boss 302 and 351's were 11 inch. Now as far as what you should get, I sould suggest a 10 or 10.5 diaphram for primary street use. Like Centerforce, although that brand would not be my first choice. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! So an 11" will only work with the Boss 302 and 351 flywheel?

Or an aftermarket flywheel which is drilled to accomodate an 11 inch pressure plate. Don't get caught up in the "bigger is better" syndrome. If you can get a deal on a 11 set up (bell housing, fork, flywheel, etc) then I would say go for it, but if you have a choice then 10 or 10.5 is plenty. Current "Race" clutches are only 7 to 8 inch. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! MM is right on. The 11" will work but is heavier and very stiff and gets real grabby in a light car. I'm pretty sure the 10.5 diapragm clutch can be bought for a standard or large HD bell/flywheel setup, but a 11" clutch MUST use the larger 11" HD setup. The trick is to get everything to match including the specific starter or your in for a big headache.------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.86 @ 116 mph (7.62 @ 93 mph)daily driver! FYI! Almost every clutch manufacturer offers a 10 or 10.5 cover to fit an 11 inch flywheel.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! And the 351's use the 164 tooth flywheel to get the 11 inch clutch to fit. where as the 289's and 302 use the smaller 157 tooth flywheel, and each has their own bell. A scatter sheild will use either flywheel and a billet 164 tooth flywheel can use a 10-11 inch clutch but not a latemodel clutch. You cant have a 11 inch clutch on a 157 tooth flywheel. Some other things to know but that gets more into late model conversions and bellhousings.
