I am going to look at a set of rear gears (pumpkin) this weekend and need to know what I'm looking for. He said they were 389'S but not sure. Is there a way to check the gear ratio (if it doesn't have the tag)? Is it possible to get 389's in an 8"? He got it from a friend and used them for a few months but didn't like them on his daily driver so he went to 280's. He doesn't want hardly anything for them but I really don't want another part that I am not going to use. Anything in particular that I should look for...he said that they were quiet and trouble free and have been sitting in a box for the last year with a little surface rust...will that be a problem? How much would it cost to put in a traction loc? Any info or links will be much appreciated.

thanks

No 3.89 gears for 8 inch.
Count the number of teeth on the pinion and ring gear.
Devide the number of teeth on the pinion into the amount in the ring gear.
This will give you the ratio.
