I've got an alternator that interferes with the MSD digital 6+. I've isolated the distributor's pickup wires and grounded everything including heads to block to body to msd to regulator to battery. Even wrapped the pick-up wires with a ground. The alternator still causes the ignition to miss and cut out. I disconnect the alternator field wire and it runs perfect! Witch would you guys change first, the alternator or the electronic regulator? Is there a way to test for EMI output? Thanks,SteveW

Is it a Mopar double field alternator?------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! 1970 and up Mopar went to double field alternators. Are they both hooked up? They will be marked on the case at the spade terminals. They will work with only one of the fields operative with a minor re-wire job.

Alex,There are two spade terminals on the alternator and both are hooked up to the regulator. One orange wire and one blue if I remember correctly. Then the large output wire goes to the batt in the trunk. It worked fine for a year, but now??? Maybe I should just switch it for a Delco or a mini alternator? SteveW

The changeover to the double field alternator coincided with the introduction of the electronic voltage regulator. I believe that you may just have a faulty regulator Steve.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Doubtful Steve. Have you tried pulling the plug on one of the field terminals?------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Alex,Yes, pulling just one field wire fixes the ignition problem. What does that mean? SteveW

Feedback from the alternator back to the MSD box. Need a new power source for the MSD box that is nor powered up by the alternator harness. You can keep your Mopar alternator..------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! How about a good filter for a stero system? Can the power to the regulator come from the alternators output wire that goes to the trunk mtd. battery? It is switched off when the car isn't being used. If so then I can move the regulator to the other side of the engine compartment and out of the wiring harness completely. SteveW

I'm not a fan of electronic filters for ignition cures.I like the other option. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Update,I fixed it, but not sure how.... LOL I isolated the regulator, no change. Bought a new alternator and found a diode missing from the old one. This had to be it. But, it wasn't! Still screwed up with the alternator charging even though it was "excited" from the output lead to the battery in the trunk. So, I gave up and installed a toggle switch in the dash to excite the alternator. That way I can have it running cleanly thru the 1/4 and charge on the return road. Got it all wired up and now,,,, It runs great with the switch on and the alternator charging, and crappy with the switch off. I don't get it, but I'm not complaining! Don't you have a love/hate relationship with something that you fix, but don't know why? SteveW
