Trying to figure out the best way to hook up my new fuel pump and filter to the stock tank. The existing fuel sender inside the tank is either 5/16" or 3/8", not sure if that's ID or OD. At least that's the options NPD offers for replacements. Measuring my existing fuel sender it's 3/8" OD and it points up as it comes out of the tank.

I'm running -10AN braided through a pump/filter/regulator with 3/8" npt in out fittings. I know the -10 was probably un-necessary but I already have it and all the fittings.

I'd rather not put a sump on the tank as that means I'd have to have the pump very low to ensure I don't burn it up. My other option would be to tap into the drain plug but again that puts the pump hanging very low.

What have you done? Did you upgrade your gas tank sender? Can it be installed so it points down. Will a 3/8 OD sender be a restriction on the system?

thanks,
don

Get a re-pop tank for $90 and weld in a bung that will accomodate a 1/2 NPT to #10 fitting and you'll be all set.
Othewise all of that fancy nice big braided hose is basically a waste.

Thanks, probably not a bad idea replacing the 36 year old tank anyhow.

I have a dead head regulator and am wondering how much worse off I'll be if I only come out of one side of the regulator (plug the other output) to the carb instead of running from both sides independent to the carb.

Also curious where others have mounted the regulators in the engine compartment. The two places I'm looking at are the top firewall passenger side or on top of where the existing fuel line comes in today.

thanks,
don

That's where it is on MM and that's where I install most.

On the firewall or over the factory input?

Thanks,
