I'm gonna put in a mini spool in my 9". I got a Strange Engineering from Scummit and it doesnt have any instructions. I wanna tackle this tommorrow (Friday). Is it that self explanatory? How is the cross pin held in? The pin has a small hole in the one end drilled crossways.

A roll pin holds the cross pin into the carrier. If you bought the Scummit hardened cross pin, run a file across the end of it to see how hardened it actally is compared to the stock pin. I bought one once and found the stock pin to be much harder!

Scoop It went great. It was a total peice of cake. They say you dont have to change your ring and pinion settings but you do have to remove the carrier and remove the ring gear to get the roll pins out so I had to reset the backlash. No biggie.I also found an easier way to get the fluid in the rearend.I used to lay under there for an hour waiting for the bottle to drain. Then I learned to squeeze the **** out of the bottle and I had two quarts in in ten minutes DOH!
I took the car up on the main road after a warmup and nailed it.Wow! this car is sick! It went sideways in a hurry! I had to get out of it in second gear which I wouldnt normally do because I was almost in the other lane.I nailed third and I was fishtailing like a nut! I've driven alot of fast cars with a posi but this was just different.Them drag radial felt like they had grease on them.
Turning bends isnt that bad. I can hear the outer tire scrubbing and the car shudders slightly but who cares. This is just temporary until I get the cash for the detroit locker and a set of Strange 31 splines.
Oh did I mention that I hate lifting that pig out of the rear on my back!! Them things are heavy.

Yeah they are heavy when your on your back.

Aren't those spool's harder on the axles ?

How is it at turning like in a parking lot or highway speed ? I read you had some fishtailing at second gear that you didn't have before.

Well they are harder on axles.I dont really care if I break it because its only temporary until I get the Detroit Locker and Strange 31 splines.Turning, you can hear the outer tire scrubbing a bit but Who cares!
As for the fishtailing, thats just attributed to the posi action.I think I'm gonna try to play with the shocks a little and see what I can do.
I'm gonna take it up to the flashlight drags next weekend and whoop up on some Chebbies I've had my eye on.

Bob I found setting my air shocks at 20psi drivers side and 100psi passenger side helped out.

Well I dont have air shocks.I have 3 way adjustable Gabriel Striders. They are similar to the CE drag shocks.Like I said I guess I just gotta play around with them a bit.I have the pass. side set on xfirm and the driver side on firm.I have 5 leaf standard eye Magna springs too.The rear is pretty stiff.

Sorry, I thought I read you air shocks. Have you clamped the springs yet ? SteveW can you tell more about clamping the springs.

I can't wait to hear what that beast can run.

No I havent clamped the springs.I have heard it helps some and hurts others ET's.Cant hurt to try it I guess.
Well I wont have an official ET this year.I have to get off my Ass and weld in the 8 point cage I got sitting in the garage.
The flashlight drags are held at an airport around here. You are started with a flashlight. You pay 20 bucks and you get 4 fake pink slips and you race guys until you lose 4 times.But... The last few times I was there they just let you race all night. Its only 1/8 mi. with absolutely no traction.Even the tubbed guys cant hook and some of them have less power than mine.

Bob, sounds like a lot of fun. We have a track kinda like that near Reno too. They use a large flood light to start you.
