Reading through the old magazines it seems that in the old days the cool trick was to mix your own Nitromethane fuels.

My question is has anyone here tried it? does anyone have any rules of thumb on how much you have to jet up to run? - or how much extra power you can expect from various mixtures?

As I recall, Kid Vishus mixed up a home-brew for his white ride a while back..... You may want to e-mail him about it.

I tried it. I ran a 5% mix. However my motor was on alcohol, so I have no idea how much a gas motor would need jetted up. I do know I didn't fatten mine up enough and it burned the electrodes off 3 plugs. Since it was the first time I tried it, I made another mistake; I backed the timing off thinking that was the correct thing to do. It wasn't. I should have left it alone. I made a couple of passes, then switched to the nitro mix and backed the timing off. Even with 8* less timing, it still ran the same number as it did on the 2 previous passes. Since my motors have always ran best with a lot of timing, I know it would have gone much faster if I would have left the timing alone.

I do know this though, I would like to try it again sometime.

At this stage in life, the CRS is eating away at me, but seems that you need some sort of catylist to mix it with gas as it wont mix without it. There is a company that sells raw nitro, (cant remember name) that also sells the stuff to make it mix with gas complete with instructions on how to brew it up. If you go high on percentages, you will need the best of head gaskets & possibly "O" ringed cyls, fatter jets, although with the pop mixed in, you are getting more of it too. Can be VERY costly. Oh yes,CRS= Cant remember $hit!
