Hey, sice i pulled the motor out to replace the shock tower, i am going to replace most of the gaskets, and paint, i was wondering if there is any serious things to watch out for while taking it off/on . they have to be torked a certain way, im not to sure, its a 68 302 if that helps, thanks guys.
By the way SteveLaRiviere, How hard was it to replace the shock tower? i need all the information i can get on doing it, thank you.

phils, did you get your 302 out "in one piece" where your just looking to freshen it up or did you take alot of stuff off to make the motor more managable?

Most of the gaskets I've bought come with instructions for tightening. Usually bolts on opposite parts of the head or intake and then only in steps. The dreaded Haynes manual even gives some pointers and I try to find a way to compromise.

I got a SB chevy on a cheapie motor stand with all the front end accessories still attached after many years.

we un bolted the transmision, the carb, and the power steering resivor,and the headers. but thats all, besides all the small stuff, distributer, etc..., now its on a stand as well.

I didn't replace my shock towers, I added a Boss 302 reinforcement kit. Because you want to be able to align the car, you want to be very careful replacing the tower and you want a good welder welding it on, this is no place to learn welding. Using an export brace is a great way to locate the top of the tower. Above all, measure everything a dozen times and cut and weld only once.
