What all has to be done to convert a 4 cyl mustang to a v8? i understand the suspension, rear end, tranny mount, and k member. Is there any thing I'm missing for the most part? im looking to do a swap and want to run a carberated 331 stroker with a c4. Any suggestions, would be appreciated.

I'd sell the 4 banger car and buy a v-8. You'll be way ahead of the swap idea. SteveW

Well said. Many guys get bogged down with taking a 4 cylinder and swapping just about every part of the car and finally realize in the end they've spent three times the amount they would have if they had just picked up a V8 car. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

I agree about buying a V8 car in the first place, if you're looking to build a near-stock buildup. If you're planning to install your own drivetrain, such as the case here, the 4 cylinder cars can be had for a song, and work ust as well. You're just throwing away less expensive parts. The K-member is the same between 4cyl and V8. It's a matter of having the correct mounts and brackets to get the V8 bolted to the K-member. All 4-cylinder cars had the 7.5" rearend, so you'd need to address the rear, too. 4-banger springs are a good choice for a street/strip car, so the other things that would have to be addressed are radiator, shocks & struts, and possibly driveshaft, depending on what you install for a rearend. ------------------ Mark Walton '83 Mustang NHRA Stocker (under construction - track debut 2003...uh...'04) '69 "off brand" NHRA SS/EA

With a carb'd engine and the car being used as for drag races the main things would be to swap to the 8.8 rear end, use the bigger rad and driveshaft and V8 motor mounts. The rest of the 4 banger stuff is OK.For a road car and those wanting to turn corners fast the springs should be changed and the bigger front brakes swapped.

i would suggest against swapping in a 302/289 based motor as you can buy cars that have that engine, no swap needed.Where as if you were to get put in a 351W or C or a FE block then i would think a 4 banger would be allright as even the 302 based cars parts will need upgrading
