Is it worth the work to mill the choke horn off of my 4777 650dp carb? I can do it on a brideport, but I'm wondering if it is worth the effort. Also should I just mill it off flat, or contour it inbetween the primaries and the secondaries like the hp carbs have? Pics of someone whose done this would be a great help. Thanks, Brandon. Also, how many horsepower would I gain approx? G-teched my car yesterday, came up with 95.7mph, 16.05 et, and 195 rwhp. I'm thinking that it isn't right? The specs are: 306 D0oe-c windsor cast heads fully ported, chambers polished 1.84,1.54 valves kb .200 dome pistons stock rods and crank with arp bolts 280/285 advertised, 230/232 @.050, .550/.550 lift, and a 110 lsa hydro roller cam weiand stealth intake Timing at 14 intital and 34 total to avoid pinging 92 octane, non-oxygenated gas, best I can get here, will not run on 89 without pinging Plugs are autolite racing AR-33 650 dp, with 68,76 jets 1.5" primary headers, and 2" dual exhaust 4-speed, 2.79 gears. ------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 306 with 600 holley, Weiand Stealth intake, headers, mme custom roller cam, harland sharp roller rockers, kb pistons, 10.3:1 compression ratio, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. I'd say you need to mill the choke horn if you have an air cleaner that is around 2" tall or less. As for the G-Tech run, it was done on the street and Brandon had major clutch slippage(I was along when he did it) and I'm sure that at least a second could be shaved off of that time by getting the clutch to 'hook'. But it is very hard to judge quarter mile times from a G-Tech when done on the street. Your ability to launch will be much greater at an actual drag strip cuz of the VHT and rubber. And getting the lower gears and that locker will also help your ability to push the envelope on the launch. You have a car that really moves once it gets going and just need to work on the launch. ------------------ 1982 Ford F100 2wd Shortbox. 357 Cleveland with TRW forged flat-top slugs, rods reconditioned w/ARP bolts and fully balanced. Heads are closed chamber 4v's that have been ported, exhaust side was also polished, rocker pedastals machined for adjustable valvetrain, 2.19" Milodon Mega-flo intake valves, 1.71" Milodon Mega-flo exhaust valves, Crower Stainless 1.73:1 roller rockers, PSI dual springs w/dampner, and Comp titanium retainers. Custom MME Hyd Roller cam with 285/287 advertised, 242/244 @0.050, and 0.640" lift on both sides. Blue Thunder dual plane intake, HVH Street Sweeper carb spacer, and 830 Holley DP w/annular boosters. Custom Flanged Hooker Super Comps. Complete Jacobs Pro Street igntion. Dacco 3800 stall converter, fully roller bearing C6. 3.89 trac-lok rear end. Caltrac Traction Bars.

As a reference: my 289 powered 68, ran a 15.8 same rear end as you (open 2.79) 3 speed auto crappy tires (although I was on a track) Factory cam, heads and cast iron log headers. edelbrock performer intake electric fan dual exh edelbrock 600 carb - tried with and without air cleaner - didnt make much difference.I think since you have a 650 on a mild 302 (probably a little too much carb fore the motor) that you probably wont see anything from milling the choke horn. Probably get more from a carb spacer. your 16 second 1/4 mile estimate must be wrong or your engine isnt running right, or you are not launching very hard at all. My 60ft times were about 2.2 seconds (not exactly a rocket launch) I did see a 302 powered falcon run 16.5 with a set of ported heads and a cam - similar set up. I cant explain it but some cars just seem to run slow. Maybe the engines are worn out or something is not adjusted right. Youd be surprised what a difference a little richer fuel can make - might even help you get more timing dialed in! Sometimes LESS timing makes more power too, dont forget that! ------------------ '68 coupe, '66 289 C code engine, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm

Just get a K&N Stubstack and put on it. That way you can always take it off if it dont work. Once you mill than your stuck if it dont work right. Bud
