I think all Holley carb accelerator pump cams come with more than one mounting hole. And, typically, there are two mounting positions on the carb linkage. Does Holley intend for the #1 cam hole to go into the #1 linkage mounting hole, or can we mix them up; say, using #1 cam hole in the #2 linkage mounting hole? What is gained/lost by moving the cam mounting around? Thanks! Ryan

Each cam is different and acts different in different holes. What I like to do is remove the carb and dump the fuel, then turn the carb over and actually watch the the movement of the pump lever with different spring adjustments and cam settings. If you move away from #1 hole you usually end up readjusting the lever spring for a stronger/quicker shot that doesn't last as long. It's the best way to understand what the different cams and settings are doing. Then go from there and select a cam stting for what you "think" the engine wants.I've even taken old cams and reground them on a small grinding wheel to try and get the desired pump shot. ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.86 @ 116 mph (7.62 @ 93 mph)daily driver! One thing I forgot to mention is, you want the lever to move instantly with the acclerator but NOT push the diaphragm past it's intended range at WOT. You could damage the diaphagm or bend something. That's why it's good to take the carb off and observe everything closely as you make any changes.

That makes sense.... I think I'll write down my changes as I go so I can track "what I did" and "what worked best". Thanks again, Dan! Ryan

Ryan, Holley makes a kit that contains several pump cams with different profiles. It should help in fine tuning.John
