If I buy a stroker kit (say from CHP) does it come balanced and ready to install or do I need to take it to a shop? Im thinking about buying a 331 kit from them to go in my '72 block.

Do you guys think im better off buying all the individual parts then having someone balance the rotating assembly?

Thanks
Phil

Try to buy your "kit" balanced.

Balancing mismatched components can be very expensive, depending on how much heavy metal they have to use. Good luck,

I prefer to balance after all fit checks have been made with the reciprocating assembly in the block. If you need to alter the pistons (deeper valve notch or maybe compensate for a decked block), rods or crank for some reason, you won't have to balance it twice.

Hi, Phil, glad to here that you are still moving ahead with that block and stroker plans. I prefer to have the balancing done locally, preferably with me there, so that if there are any issues I am dealing with someon down the street instead of across the country. Have had problems in the past with "balanced" assemblies from many states away, real pain with all the shipping and so on.

I just put together another 408 using a scat 9000/scat H-beams from cnc-motorsports - good pricing and delivery. Pick your pistons (for street use look into KB) and you are mostly there.
