I have a 68 mustang that I bracket race, 1/8th mile only. Best so far was 2 weeks ago 8.01 1.67 60 ft 84.5 MPH I shift at 6000 and cross @5200 I have a 351W with stock heads the exhaust bumps have been ground out @10:1 Comp 282S 236 @50 528 lift RPM intake 750 dp C4 10" 4500 PTC race converter 4.56 and 28x10 slicks I was thinking about purchasing a set of AFR 185 heads. I have two questions. First if I were to put thses heads on my motor how much ET could I expect to pick up. Second are the these best choice for my car or is there another head that is a better match to my combo. [This message has been edited by Jerry Piner (edited 09-15-2004).]

They would be an perfect match for your current combo. The car would gain a ton of power. They should work well. But it will still need an 8" convertor. As stated before by several folks, your convertor is killing your ET. It's physically too large for your motor to make work properly. With an 8" convertor with the same stall, there is no reason your car shouldn't be running 7.60-7.70's now.

So would I be better off getting the converter first, then the heads later on down the road. Wouldn't the 8" make the car a bit more consistant than a 10". Since it is a bracket car I would rather make it more consistant first and faster later.

You guys are running very similar setups to mine. With just those heads, expect mph to increase by about 10. GregK, you may need a 750DP to take full advantage of those heads later on. Expect to run low 7s/mid-11s or even better if you can get your 60' times below 1.60 ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.86 @ 116 mph (7.62 @ 93 mph)daily driver!
