I bought a nice 650 HP racing carb from a swapmeet and I've been tuning it on the 331 for a hot 302 project. Came with stock configuration. 70/70 jets, 65 PV front and rear, and 27/28 squirters. Needless to say, it didn't run perfect out of the box. I was a little disappointed. I had to move up to different pump cams (green or blue I think) and 35 squirters front and rear to get rid of a major lean spot under a hard pull. The idle would not come down below 1200 without closing the butterflies completely, so I had to remove the pretty stainless drilled butterflies and install some plain ones. It's running pretty good now but there may be a few more ponies hiding somewhere. Do you think the 35 nozzles are too big for a 650?? I only had to use 31's in my 750HP, but it has different metering blocks and down leg boosters. Any ideas on what to try next. I want to get it ready for a dyno run. Thanks. ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.86 @ 116 mph (7.62 @ 93 mph)daily driver! Heck man, I'm always open to ideas! I don't care who or where they come from. It keeps that air between my ears fresh. Plus without helpful advice, I'm always running in circles! ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.86 @ 116 mph (7.62 @ 93 mph)daily driver! dan, i sure you know that the squrters have nothing to do with the flow after the initial pump shot. i had to go up to 42's before i got the stumble out of my 310. usually if you got a stumble, it is a lack of fuel or the fuel coming in late. the squrters should have nothing to do with your dyno pull.------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-302-7.33 @92mph 1/8 1.54 60 ft. http://community.prestage.com/Member+Pages/789.aspx

What about the rear PV. Should I plug it and go up jet size?------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.86 @ 116 mph (7.62 @ 93 mph)daily driver! the pv's are there for slow and street driveability. they add 6-8 numbers to your jets when the vacuum drops below their rating. (6.5,3.5 etc) in theory they are completly open at WOT! i run mine plugged just for consistancys sake. there sould not be a power difference either way.------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-302-7.33 @92mph 1/8 1.54 60 ft. http://community.prestage.com/Member+Pages/789.aspx

YES ! Dan, my 700dp ddn't come with a rear PV. If it did I'd plug and up the jets too. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I would say a rear power valve can become uncovered on a dragstrip start. Therefore, you should...Plug the rear power valve, up the secondary jets 6-8 sizes to compensate, and add jet extensions. Holley sells a kit that includes screw-in jet extensions and a notched float for around $17. (I'm not stupid with a carb, but I'm by no means a carb specialist... but that's what I would do) Good Luck! ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220

Yep, the 650 "HP" (high performance??) is a different animal than most 650's. It comes from Holley with all the xtr goodies. I think it's more of a road race carb than a strip carb though. Here's the description: http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLine/Products/FMS/FMSC/0-80541-1.html ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.86 @ 116 mph (7.62 @ 93 mph)daily driver!
