What pistons are people using in Blown Clevos? I've been looking and I can't find anything off the shelf with more than 13cc dish... This only gets me 8.2sh comp if i use a 0.078" felpro gasket and OC heads... I'm not particularly thrilled about using such a thick gasket.. I don't want forgies cos of the piston slap when cold, I intend to use this thing for close to daily driver and 12psi, 98 octane... Any Ideas? can I modify the KB Hyper dished pistons so they're more of a bowl than a cutout (if you know what I mean... tapered instead of stepped bowl)Thanks Guys! Ben

Let me get this straight. You want to run 12 psi and 98 octain in a daily driver and you don't want to run forged pistons because of piston slap? ------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 408C 4V, best time to date is 10.50 best MPH 127

Yep. Basically. 98 Octane is available from about 2/3rds of the service stations here.... The other point is cost... Forgies down here = big$$

Remember that the 98 octane you have down there is not the same as 98 octane here in the States. I think your 98 octane = about 93 octane using the US (RON + MON)/2 method. Look into water injection to control detonation. You will need CUSTOM FORGED piston in my totally biased opinion. Hypers are not so great in any power adder application.

I don't see what the problem is with running 12 psi on Hyper Pistons with 8:1 compression and a fairly mild 351? I mean, the riceboys all run waaay more boost and way more compression on cast pistons... I'm only talking about a fairly mild setup, with EFI to keep the mixtures & spark under control. Yes, Water injection is on the list, but mainly for when I get on it....

I'm no expert, but I've read many times that Hyper pistons don't like boost in excess of 4-5+ lbs. One guy said they shatter like glass after that

There is nothing mild about 12psi boost. The horse power potential could easily be around 550-600hp on a "mild" 351. That's not to mention all the extra cylinder pressure and heat. Not the kind of environment for cast pistons.I won't even go into what the ricers are doing. ------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 408C 4V, best time to date is 10.50 best MPH 127

Yep, 500 rwhp is the target... it only works out to 100hp/litre, which is mild... and really, in terms of forced induction, 10-12 psi is mild...

My opinion, I wouldn't use cast hypers in any performance engine, normally aspirated much less forced induction. If you're not getting the answers here that you want, maybe you should ask the ricers. Roger

Hyper pistons will last forever (up to a certain boost level) until you get even the slightest hint of detonation. Once you get some detonation say goodbye to your pistons. If you run real low boost with hypers (no more than 8lbs) with a real rich tune to ward off any potential detonation than I think you could get a way with it for a while. But you will still have a ticking timebomb on your hands that will eventually blow.Paul ------------------ 1970 Grande H code 351W FMX 1998 SVT Mustang Cobra Bright Atlantic Blue

I don't think I would push my luck with hyper pistons with 12 pounds of boost. I run the TRW off the shelf forged dished pistons with open chamber 4V heads. I run between 12 and 14 pounds of boost.
