We use 1st, then 2nd gear for the burnout. Could easily use 2nd gear to start with, but it's Melissa's routine now. SteveW

thats exactly what i do steve. just did not want to hurt anything. wonder if it would be easier on it just starting in 2nd and staying there. i have heard that a 2-3 shift is really bad on them.------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-302-7.33 @92mph 1/8 1.54 60 ft. http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/billswebsite/pg06.html

I start my burnout in second and stay in second. Tires get plenty of heat.

On a smal tire low HP car, 1-2 is plenty. We use that system with the convert and many others. MM and Tony's car use 1-2-3 to get more wheel speed as they tires are taller.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Alex, how many runs do you get out of a rebuild?

On my car, I start off in 2nd, whack the throttle to get them spinning, then shift it into high right away. On KK's car, we start in low and shift to second.

I go 1-2-3 and then lay into the throttle as the engine starts to load. Hold it at 6000 for a couple of seconds and roll out. Here is where I start backing out of the throttle. You know that point when the tires dead hook and the engine loads hard and the car lunges forward? I feel that is hard on high gear and the converter. Think about the tires spinning at 90MPH and then dead hooking. I don't like that. Using this method has worked well for me. I have been tearing down my tranny every winter and the clutches always look good. ------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 408C 4V, best time to date is 10.50 @ 125mph

6000? I normally come out of the water around 7200. Unless there are a lot of spectators, then I come out of the water on the chip at 8k.

I'm using 28" Hoosiers. You are using 32+" mongo X hugh slicks. I can't compete with that. ------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 408C 4V, best time to date is 10.50 @ 125mph
