I went racing yesterday for the first time in almost 2 months. Of course, I was still driving KK's car as mine doesn't have the new motor yet. Anyways, the car ran real good. Consistant, and maybe more importantly, it was predicatable. First pass, 1.726 60', 7.853. Next pass, 1.723 and 7.846. First round I dialed a 7.83. I had a mediocre lite, .046, and the car ran 1.723 60', and 7.831. But I lost by .000 (at the even of a tie race, they go by reaction time, and he had a .012 lite.) Since the car was running well and the loss was so close, I bought back. Dialed 7.82, and went 7.822 with a .039 lite and got the W. Next round I ran the guy I lost to in the first round. I dialed 7.81, and thankfully he redlit cuz I broke out; 7.791 (and I had a .054 lite.) 4th round I was feelin pretty good, although my lites weren't killer, they were decent and most of the guys at this track dont kill the tree. First let me tell you what my 4th round opponent ran; he had a .077 lite, and ran 7.46 on a 7.42 dial; an easily beatable package. I ran 7.793 on a 7.78. However, I had a .005 RED lite. All it had to be was green and the round was mine. I didn't think I pushed the tree that hard, but since I'm kind of rusty, that was probably to be expected.Regardless, I hate giving races away! The really good thing is the car is running real well, even after it sat for almost 2 months. It might be a little fat, but it's predictable so I think I'll leave it alone. ps Did I mention it was after 1 am when I ran the 4th round and the humidity was 95%.

Kid I know what you mean. Last sunday I ran a 12.401 and a 12.423 in time trials. First round I dialed a 12.40 but the wind changed when I was in the staging lanes to almost head on. I changed the dial to a 12.41, and ran a 12.411. Enough for the win. Round two I dial a 12.40 and red lit with a .496 If it wasn't for bad luck I would not have any luck at all!!!!!------------------ 1968 coupe 351W, Bored.030,Stock Crank, Stock Rods,Decked,KB Hyper. flat top pistons. Kid,I had the badest of the bad in the third round yesterday. Larry Gilley's wheelstanding 'Cuda dialed a 10.17 in the 102 degree heat. My car was slowing each round and the 60's were deteriorating too. Then I line up with him, I'm dialed a 11.86 (previous round the car went a 11.872 against a red lighter). We both had good lights my .025 his .023. When I launched I felt the car hook up so I knew I was gonna break out. At the stripe I'm looking for him and he's coming at 132 mph, didn't think he could catch me so I lifted, then got back in it. He broke out by .001, I broke out by .049. My best run during eliminations. My first two time trials were a 11.801 and a 11.800. LOL I thought about wiping the 6 off the dial for a 11.8 but decided not to second guess myself. Oh well it was fun, SteveW

KV, everybody criticises a red light it seems. Even a slow light isn't frowned on like the old "red eye" is. An old racer from the days of no transbrakes told me once that if you're not red lighting every now and then, you're not pushing for better lights. He had a point. I'd rather lose with a .499 red than lose with a .540 light.

I used to think that too Jerry. But the year I won the no box track championship, I only redlit in elims two times all year. It was then that I realized it's better to be .540 than .49-anything. You can't win if you go red. At least if you are a little late, you can still make a race of it at the end and have a chance.
