I crawled under my car today to adjust my clutch base pressure and looked around a bit. Saw that the top drivers side ear is cracked completely through. I have another case that is broke in the exact same place(that wasn't in my car). A weak spot maybe? I indexed the bellhousing with offset dowels to within .004 runout. I wonder if this happened when I blew the pinion out of my center section, and other parts! Good main cases are hard to come by and expensive. I know they can be welded but will it be strong enough for launching hard with slicks in a heavy car?

It can be welded. Under normal circumstances it won't break gain. If only the outer bolt hole is broken off use the inner holes if the tranny has both patterns. I used to use all 8 bolt holes.

Thanks for the reply Tom! I talked to a couple stick guys at the track this weekend and they said the same thing. I dropped it off at a friends that has a friend who is a excellent welder. He has used nickel rod on cast iron plenty of times and knows what he is doing. I think I will use all 8 holes next time it goes back in.
