If all other things stayed the same, like same motor, trans, traction ect. Going from 3.40 gears to 3.80 gears what would or could expect to pick up in the 1/4mile,1/8mile. Also same question but different car. My dads 88GT he has 3.08 gears now I got him some 3.55 gears what would that do ?

ron the only way to find out is to try them!! every car is different. i went from 4.10 to 4.56 in my car and the ONLY thing that changed was the rpm at the finish line!------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-302-7.33 @92mph 1/8 1.54 60 ft. http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/billswebsite/pg06.html

Depends on your engine's power curve. If you put lower gears with a stock engine that can't make h.p. at upper rpm ranges then you'll just be making more noise and possibly slower et's. It's all got to be matched, not just the engine components, but the tranny ratio and the overall gear ratio to be effective. So I guess I'm saying, it depends. SteveW p.s. Ron, in your case the lower gears will help, but they sreate a traction problem too. But with equal traction they'll be quicker.
