I need some solid advice, I'm seriously considering crossing over to the other side. All of my performance cars have always had 4 or 5 speeds. But now since my hand, eye, and knee coordination is starting to slide, I'm thinking about going with an AOD behind my 347. I know virtually nothing about an automatic. While in Detroit last week I got to talk with a guy from Canada that had a 408 in a 67 with a Lentech AOD, the car was for street and strip. His OD was controlled by a toggle switch and it did not require a TV cable. Any ideas on the transmission he had? Or any other suggestion on which way to go. My T-5 and clutch are about to die so I thought I might as well start thinking about the swap. I want my cake and eat it to. Right now I'm running consistent [email protected] with a terrible 1.90 60 ft, I want to improve on that but don't want to give up the OD. Mike,My other car with a big hungry auto (like a c-6) and d.o.t. tires is much slower than Melissa's c-4 ride. It's a fairer comparison, as it has to drive itself to the track and be streetable. Anyway to the point, it has run 11.46 @ 116 mph with just a 11" $200 street/strip converter and 3.70 rear gears. Even in bad air it'll run 11.70s at only 112 mph. Mel's '66 will run low 11's at your h.p. level. I know AOD's will rob more h.p. than a small block 3 speed, but probably not more than a big block 3 speed. I say go for it and enjoy the new timeslips. Make it a manual shift and get a ratchet shifter so you still have to "bang gears". SteveW

Steve, Do you know of anyone that has went with a Lentech AOD? I liked the idea of not having to run a TV cable, so I'm curious what version of tranny the guy in the 67 had, I'm guessing it was the AODE since it had a toggle switch for OD lock up. I guess I will contact Lentech directly. Thanks for the encouragment, the old knees just can't take it much longer. Mike

Mike,No I really don't know much about the Lentech. But why not go with an older AOD? The lock up converters aren't really performance converters. Jim at JPT could set you up nicely with a street/strip AOD. SteveW
