How hot should my plug wires, coil and duraspark box be getting. After I drive the car and maybe sit at idle for a time. I notice the plug wires are so hot you can't even touch them. Is that normal ?
. Even if the water temp is only reading 180. I've always been told to hot let ignition parts get TO hot. what do you guys do to help keep them cool ?

I mounted my MSD 6AL box in my console's cubby. It took some doing, but it really cleaned up the motor compartment. My wires don't get hot at all though
I do run ceramic coated headers... yours are painted, correct? That would account for some additonal under-hood heat, but I'd think that monster scoop would feed plenty of fresh air to the motor compartment.

MSD instructions specifically state NOT to mount it in an enclosed space like a glovebox, the unit needs to throw off heat. Hope your console cubby is well ventilated!

Yeah painted headers and I run my wires along the valve cover on the header side. They are far enough above the headers. But they still get real hot, so does my coil and I put it on the inner fender just in front of the head same with my dura spark box. When I get my MSD box I was thinking about mounting it under the dash ?

As for the plug wires is thinking of getting some heat cover that side over them and put them in wire looms to hold them as far away from the motor and headers as I can.

Todd, the scoop draws in plenty of air. But the hole in the hood is round and only a 1/4" bigger around then the air cleaner. So almost all of the air coming in goes to the carb very little gets to the motor. Was going after a ram air affect.
My electric fan blows a lot air right past the ignition box and coil.
