Sometimes racing's like a blow to the head except it costs money..After 3 years I finally got my car back to the track last night. I wanted to at least get a pass or two in preparation for next weekend's PRO race at Maple Grove. The rollercoaster started just when we were getting the car ready to load up (already 2 hours late) and discovered a miss. After checking the valve lash, we discovered some gas dripping up near the pressure regulator. Come to find out the cool can (one of those Moroso blue ones) had ate out and the cool can was filled with about a gallon of gas. That would have been cool splashing on my headers going down the track So after tossing the cool can in the yard, rigging up some plumbing where the cool can used to be, changing plug wires and plugs (and never really getting rid of the miss), we loaded her up and headed for Pittsburgh Raceway Park. When we got to the gate they said they weren't accepting anymore cars , so we went in anyway. I found the track manager and he agreed to let me run in with first round of the electronic class, but I'd have to guess at my dial in (with a brand new motor and a car I hadn't ran in quite awhile). I guess the one bright spot of the day is I dialed a 11.50 and ran a [email protected] with a .579 light. First pass ever on this combination! (Not bad for a 3100# car with a .485lift cammed 347...but about a half second off the pace for PRO Mean Street). I lost the round but decided to buy back and run Gambler's to get another pass. This pass was going pretty good, until I shifted into high gear and got to around 1000' all hell broke loose! All of a sudden the motor just quit running dead and I started feeling the car going kinda sideways. After about a second or so the motor started running again, and by that time I had backed out of it. Checked oil pressure and temp, everything okay...all the gears in the tranny seemed okay too . I didn't realize how bad it was until I was coming up the return road and I saw the trucks out on the track looking for debris and everyone stairing at my car. When I picked up my timeslip the guy asked me if I was alright! Turns out I left about 100 feet of skid marks with my slicks at the 1000' . At the time everyone figured I scattered my motor because they said there was alot of smoke. So I'm setting here this morning wondering what the heck happened And what's hurt

Well, we're on a mission...I'm pulling the motor tomorrow night and checking bearings, etc. My buddy's bringing his C4 over Wednesday night and with a little luck we'll be setting the motor back in that same night. I've taken Thursday and Friday off work so hopefully I'll get the car prepped Thursday and we'll pull out for Maple Grove Friday morning. MUST...RACE....CAR....

Thanks guys... The car's a '68 coupe, diamond blue (might as well say white), and will either have a boss 429 scoop or a primer black cowl induction scoop. I'm running in the Mean Street class. Last night got the motor pulled and everything looks okay.
