No tap needed. Just plug into the I on the solonoid. Too simple huh. I hate to see ppl hook the choke to the + of the coil.

There is supposed to be a terminal on the solonoid that is only 12V when the car is running? if so, i don't think mine has that, the whole one side is hot all of the time the battery is connected, then i have one wire going to the starter, and one wire coming from the ignition switch to engage the solenoid

and should the electric choke be fused?

i have a wire on the inside of the car that i could tap into that is only 12V when ignition is in on position, but it's only 7.5A

i could also tap into the wiring harness deal for the duraspark unit, as it should have a wire that is hot when the car is running.

You can get 12v from the "I" of the starter solonoid or from the "stat" of your alternator. Then just add an inline fuse. I would find out what the amp draw of your choke is and add 50%. You can figure this by measuring the resistance of the choke thermostat, and 12 volts using ohms law (amps = voltage/resistance). For instance, if you have 1.5 ohms resistance and 12 volts, 12/1.5 = 8, or 8amps. A 15-amp fuse would probably be fine.
