Hey guys I just picked up a 79 F-250 4x2 with a factory 460. It has every piece of smog equiptment still there. Is there a way or a place to find out exactly what to remove and how somewhere? I dont want to rip something off that I am not supposed to and screw it up. I asked on the 385 engine board and here in the truck section and have got 0 replies. Can anybody help me out? I dont need this stuff on the engine here and I know it is costing me power. Could someone please help me out with this or direct me to where I can find info on doing it. The thing has 72K on it and every date coded hose and belt are still present. They will be changed in the near future anyway. I would not have listed it in this part of the board but its my last resort. Thanks for any help and much appreciated Bill

You should be able to remove the smog pump, the canister above it, the hose from the canister to the valve at the back of the engine. You can also remove the smog tube and valve that attaches to the backs of the heads but you'll need to plug the two holes in back of the heads by whatever means you can. If you can't do that then just leave the smog tube and check valve attached for now. If you do plug those holes you can pretty much remove anything attached to the smog pump. Just leave the alternator and alternator bracket obviously.

If you come across any small hoses that attach to the canister (above the smog pump) you may want to plug those as they may attach to a vacuum source.
