Does anyone here have any experience with these heads on a 351W?

One questions is... does the block need to be notched like the 351C block for valve clearance?

Another... are the pan rails raised? I would like to use these head with a rocker shaft system and FordMotor Sport valve covers.

One issue is intake manifold compatibility. The only intakes that
I've seen for those heads are for 9.2" decks. I know Edelbrock makes
spacers and Blue Thunder may as well.

I would think so. The valve locations and angles are the same.
You will, of course, need pistons with Cleveland style notches.
The depth of the notch will determine the upper ring location.

I dunno but that engine picture rings a bell. That's the 351C in the
back of my Pantera.

After looking up the specs of the Dart blocks I think I might go with the 9.2" block. All of the blocks from 8.7" to 9.5" have the same bore & Stroke capabilities. (4.00" X 4.185") Therefore, the only thing is affected is the rod ratio and then it would be easier to get an intake manifold.

You'd have to run a really short rod for a 4" stroke in an 8.7" deck block.
4" will work in a 9.2" but I've got to believe you can get a longer stroke
in a 9.5" block. A friend runs a 4.1" stroke Eagle crank in his 418W.

What cylinder heads do plan on using?

> btw, what intake is that?

It's a Weiand Xcelerator 2V. My Pantera is a '74 model which came with
a low compression 351CJ (open chamber heads and dished pistons). The
engine (and car) only had 16K miles on it when I bought it, so I slapped
a pair of closed chamber Aussie 2V cylinder heads (56 to 57 cc's) to
bump up the compression, put a small cam in it, a set of headers, and
the Weiand intake with a 735 CFM Holley. I don't care much for the 4V
version of the Weiand intake but the 2V is a pretty good intake for
the Aussie 2V heads.

From what I've seen I believe the Blue Thunder heads are the best for the money atm. I like the Yates heads, although, there're a bit pricey. So, Blue Thunder with shaft mounted rockers and whatever intake I can get. Ford MotorSport maybe... I think they made a manifold that would work with the 9.5? W block using Yates heads, but I'm not sure about Blue Thunder heads.

I?m shooting for an RPM range from 4500 to 7500. Right now I have a 5500 stall converter, a C4 trans with a PA brake and several sets of 9? gears to choose from. The car is 3050 with me in it and track driven only.

I would rather use the 9.5" deck height block for the better rod ratio and maybe a few extra cubes. My first choice would be the 9.5? Dart block at a 4.150? bore and a 4.00? or more stroke. Yates head, FMS or Victor intake and Jesel or equivalent shaft mounted rockers; I?ve seen some good deals on ebay for the Jesel?s and even Yates heads as well.

Do you know if FMS makes a manifold like this for the 9.5" block?
