I have a freshly rebuilt (1991) 302 that has the 50oz harmonic balancer, when I bolted it up to my C4 I had put in the original 28oz flexplate that was with that C4, when the car was running it obviously had some vibration, What I am wondering is, how long would it take until this vibrating would wear out the main bearings etc? (Just a note, oil pressure is normal and hasnt changed) I didnt put many miles on the car as I was obviously concerned about the vibration, so it is now parked & has been for about a year. I recently purchased the correct motorsport 50oz/C4 flexplate, My question is am I ok to change the flexplate & keep on rolling or is this motor now a ticking time bomb?[This message has been edited by Kellxr7 (edited 07-27-2004).]

Depends on your sign, alignment of the stars, etc..One time we ran a 351C in a dirt track car with a 0 balance flywheel from a 300-six for 2 seasons and never had a problem. However, I suspect people have pounded bearings out in a matter of minutes too

we were in the water box with the motor revving at 5500 rpm s at cordova when Jason heard a loud bang and felt a major vibration. He shut it down right away and I ran over to see why becuse I did'nt have a clue as to what had happened. The next day we found out the flexplate counterweight had come loose and hit the starter and bell damaged both but thats all, everything else was untouched, replaced the bell, flexplate and fixed the starter. That winter, after finishing the race season,we pulled the pan to check the bearings and they looked great. So dont worry you'll be fine. popeye ------------------ This is FORD COUNTRY, where on a quiet night, you can hear a chevy rusting
