im running 3'' x-pipe with 2.50 2chamber flows with 2.50'' tailpipes, now i got mandrel bent tailpipes from summit 2.50'' should i go to 3'' from x-pipe to muffler or just stay with my current one, 69mach1 408w.also who makes a good flowing muffler and is not as loud as these 2 chamber flows. thinking of maybe turning it down a notch.

I'd go with the 3" to the mufflers. The Dyno max mufflers I've heard sound good. But most cars that run 3" pipe tend to sound alittle louder anyways.

3" back to 3" mufflers... then weld 3 bolt collector rings to the muffler outlets, and connect the 2.5" tailpipes using ordinary header reducers.

This will make the tailpipes easily removable in case you want to free up the exhaust w/full 3". (when the mood strikes)

It also makes the entire exhaust system MUCH easier to remove for transmission service, etc. This is a VERY good thing to do when using an X-pipe, since they are often right in the way.

Good Luck!

...what mike said...

Also, the Hooker Aerochamber is ALOT quieter than a Flowmaster and flows as well if not better than.

That Mike,, hims a pretty smart fella..

I wish I had asked that question before installing my 2.5" system..

From what I've read,, Flowtech's "Warlock" mufflers which incorporate a bypass,, have good flow and are quieter for street that quite a few standard turbos,, and for someone that frequents the track periodically they would seem to be a good choice.. I think Alex sells them too..

Mike,, would what you are proposing be easier to install than putting a pair of Warlocks on..

Warlocks make really good power uncapped, but are super noisy. Capped up, they are just a tick off on power, compared to the best out there.

The removable tailpipes get the noise out the back of the car, and keeps dust from getting blown everywhere when travelling over dirt or gravel.

Flowmaster makes those $99/pr mandrel bent 2-1/2" tailpipes for 64-73 mustangs that are tough to beat. Most muffler shops cringe at the thought of making large diameter tailpipes for mustangs. If they do make them with a standard bender, they are crimped and crushed all to h*ll. They will be glad to see you walk in the door with the Flowmaster tailpipes! They also look WAY better. It's the best hundred bucks you'll spend on the exhaust system.

Good Luck!
