I pulled 1 & 8 plug after a short blast. they both looked real dark with the first thread being black and 2nd being alot lighter and the 3rd looked unchanged. The does not smell rich at idle or other wise. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. Scoop make two hard blasts then pull plugs,it will take two to clean them up and get a good reading. ------------------ 69 fairlane 351w [email protected] in search of Body parts for 69 fairlane Import Racing is like the SPECIAL OLYMPICS! When you read plugs you should be looking at the base of the center Porcelain. You are looking for a light tan color. You might need a viewer to see down there. The best place to do the reading is at the strip. put in some fresh plugs, run through the quarter, turn the engine off at wide open throttle as you go through the traps and coast over to the return road. Then pull the plugs and read them. If you can't get to a track, do your best to simulate these conditions. Reading plugs that have been driven around will not tell you what you want to know, you have to start with some new ones. John

OK,I wouldn't waste my time on the 600. When you jet the 700, start with 2-3 numbers smaller jets than stock at your elevation. When we ran Fallon, most of the sealevel racers jetted down 3-4 sizes. SteveW

Thanks Steve, that would put me at 64 fronts and 74 rears.Yeah wasn't worried about changing the 600 jets I was more trying to get a range for the jets in the 700, but what you said helped a lot. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. plug reading has'nt helped me one bit, ever. even had them read by an nmra renegade racer and guess what, everything he told me to do was wrong. "too much timing and you are fat"....wrong. did the timing first, the car slowed down. jetted next, car slowed down. maybe you just cant read this pump gas stuff unless the tune is way off. only thing i trust now is my timeslips or a dyno. maybe the guys running the airplane stuff actually get readable marks on the plugs. im done chasing that rabbit.------------------ 306, 4speed, 4.11's....best 1/8 mile 7.58 at 92mph with 1.72 60ft.
