I am helping a friend who spun a rod bearing during cam break-in and he wants to know if he should reuse the piston rings from the piston that he has to pull out, and if he should re-hone that cylinder?

What do you guys think?

Throw them back in. I just did it on my 302 with 600 miles on the rings, I took them out because I found out they need more end gap on the top ring for kb pistons. I put it back together and it doesn't use a drop of oil, or smoke at all.

If the ring is broken in on THAT cylinder, there is no need to hone. As a matter of fact, I would NOT hone it. Anytime I reuse a ring, I do NOT hone the cylinder.

Good Luck!

Ya, what Mike said, don't hone it. I didn't on mine and they seated fine. There was still a light crosshatch in my cylinders yet though, so they weren't even glazed yet, so I was sure they'd seat again. You shouldn't have a problem with it.
