Greg I had a couple of questions about your car how much stall do you have what size slicks do you run and what RPM do you shift at. Also what are your 60 ft and 1/8th mile times. I have been thinking about getting the same cam was wondering what you think about it.

Nice to see iron heads performing so well. They are completely stock? They even still have the thermactor humps in the exhaust? I ported a set of '70 351w heads for a 331 which runs very well and produced peak power at 6200. It dyno'd at 297 HP and 307 ft-lbs at the rear with mufflers thru a C4 and 9" posi with the timing off by 4 degrees retarded and the carb right out of the box. Many people just think automatically that aluminum heads are necessary to make any power...not------------------ '65 "Black" ford FB, 329 with H beam 289 rods, fully prepped 351w heads, 282S cam, C-4, 3.5 9" posi. Many Suspension and steering mods. 4 year project so far. Restomod estimated completion in May. [This message has been edited by blackford (edited 06-28-2004).]

Jerry, The stall comes from an ATI converter that is suppose to be about 1,000 above stock. The slicks are BFG drag radials 275/50/15 with 16lbs of pressure. My shift rpm is 5,500. I was shifting around 6,000 and started to notice that it kind of nosed over after around 5,600 rpms. I got a copy of Dyno 2003 and ran my engine specs. through it, and it said that I was making my peak Hp (349hp) around 5,500 with my stock heads. Thats where I now shift. My 60 ft times are 1.71 Launching at 2,000 rpms. My 1/8 mile times are 7.924 @ 85.71 mph.Blackford, My heads are box stock except for new valve, guides, springs, teflon seals, and hardened seats on the exhaust side. They are 69 windsor heads. ------------------ 1968 coupe 351W, Bored.030,Stock Crank, Stock Rods,Decked,KB Hyper. flat top pistons. Greg,That's cool, you're doing damned good on stock heads! Congrats! You'd be at 12 flat or less with a Edelbrock rpm head. Or at least we were with the c-4 behind our mild 10-1 351w with rpm heads and a 282s cam. We had/have a 9" t/c that stalled at 4,00 rpm, but the 750 vs carb bogged off the line big time. We only ran this combo once before the 408w went in in front of the c-4. SteveW

Steve, I'm really happy with how this thing runs. My engine builder and good friend wants to put a set of AFR 185's on it. I will have to instal a roll bar and I do not want to do that right now. I use this as a family crusier, and it would be difficult for the kids to get in and out of the back seat. After what I saw with Darrel Russel this past weekend I think I'm going to put in a at least a five point saftey belts. Just having a lap belt at 105 mph is a little scary. Do they make a safety belt set that works with high back seats?------------------ 1968 coupe 351W, Bored.030,Stock Crank, Stock Rods,Decked,KB Hyper. flat top pistons. Greg I can understand all about the kids having to get in out of the car. My 65 is also used as a family cruiser. And there is nothing wrong with wanting to keep your car a 12second family cruiser. I already have a 3 point seat belt system for the rear seats. That was the first thing I did before I put the kids back there. With my son now 5'10" and 185lbs he doesn't fit real well in the back seat. Get some five or four point front belts asap. They sell floor mount units that come in different lenghts. Darrel Russel is a sad reminder of how short life is. ------------------ SCOOP
