My car will be used for cruising 99% of the time. I'm looking at upgrading my distributor to something without points. The MSD Billit distributor doesn't have vacuum advance but Accell does. I'm using ported vacuum to my distributor now. How will no vacuum advance affect driveabillity? The engine is a 302 with iron windsor jr heads, comp cams 270H, edelbrock performer (need an RPM) intake, BG road demon jr 625 carb, long tube headers. Has a transgo prepped C4 with 2500 stall and 2.79 open rear which will someday (hopefully soon) have something in the 3.50 range.

I'm pro vacuum advance for a cruiser if for no other reason than an increase in the fuel mileage. Light acceleration characteristics with a properly tuned and ported vacuum advance is expected to be better and more responsive than without.------------------ Ted E. Fe's are plenty fast, but "Y"'s are fun when they run in the nines.

My new Crane does both? or one at a time! Your choice.

Hi, Here's my idea. Run a Duraspark dist with MSD AL6. Install the adapter and wide fire cap. This will allow you to use 8.8mm wires. You can get a rebuilt dist from Autozone or any parts house. Get the early dist with 10 degrees advance internal. This way you can run 12 int and 32-36 total. The MSD will make a differance and will last as long as you install it correctly. I have run mine plugged for almost 500 miles now. Not one problem at all, car pulls real strong and gas milage seems fine too. With the old motor it ran better with the advance hooked up, new motor pulls great with it plugged. But I have total timing in by 2400rpm.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

Thanks for the input. I had heard that the main benefit was driveabillity during moderate acceleration. Looks like I should go with vacuum advance for my application. Just have to find the right one. I'm not very fond of the ignition box and extra wiring in the engine compartment so duraspark and 6A's are at the bottom of my list right now. I had looked at the Crane distributor but they seemed a bit pricey compared to the MSD and Accell.
